As a matter of fact, the wish-I'd-thought-of-it-two-weeks-sooner jam is the tape's opener, which was produced by Dustin Cavazos , and as it turns out it makes just as sweet of a sample as I had envisioned. Rubblebucket // Triangular Daisies EPRubblebucket , who's tumultuous January self-titled release was in heavy rotation in the Mount Righteous tour van last winter, have a new EP out next Tuesday. The very mish-mashed Triangular Daisies EP is not exactly what one might expect from the eclectic New York orchestra. For one thing it features tracks more electronic than the band have dabbled in previously, relegating their typical tumbling horn rhythms to less critical flashes of color. Then there's the obligatory Beatles cover, a Nightmoves remix, live track, and an 8-bit reworking of "Bikes" off their January release. Both galleryCat, Mount Righteous Featured On ..Photo courtesy of Mattie Stafford While it's not exactly what went down regarding the "live mash-up" between galleryCat and Mount Righteous at last night's DOMA awards, LehtMoJoe's latest effort is a fun little ride nonetheless. Pitting together a Swizz Beatz-style sampling of "When the Child Awakes" with a playful semi-biographical rhyme from galleryCat about the perils of being an independent hip-hop artists in DFW, trying to book/promote shows, and failing. Last Night: DOMA 2010 @ Granada TheaterExcitement. Panic. Devastation. In the words of Hunter S. Thompson, these are the only three words that can best describe the mystic night last night at the Dallas Observer Music Awards. With band fusion mash-ups from RTB2 and THe BAcksliders to Mount Righteous and galleryCat, and with pit performances from the likes of the amazing Spooky Folk and DOMA winners Whiskey Folk Ramblers along with award presentations in between, the stale Granada air was filled with a double rainbow that started to look like a triple rainbow. Tonight: Very Special Acoustic Performances ..We were excited about the recent opening of Pause/Replay , a performance/art gallery space and musician consignment shop respectively, in Grapevine. When renovations are finalized, the complex will also feature Play, aka rehearsal spaces. Perhaps I am partial because I've rehearsed there, but I think the suburbs could use a lot more places like these that can be used as performances spaces. The arts shouldn't be relegated solely to the big cities, especially the young and emerging artists who are often swallowed by it's expanses or worse they get overlooked by more established acts. I convinced their Twitter master to hand over an mp3 and that song is the uproarious glorious "Eat Your Wife and Kiss The Barbecue." Marvelous, marvelous. A couple hints of the new album have popped up such as "When Your Paycheck Comes" (I think that's off the new one) and the great "Suburban Homesick Blues." Mount Righteous | Eat Your Wife And Kiss The ..It's been noted, most recently on DC9, that Mount Righteous are moving away from the delightfully happy sounds of their first album to a more, noisy, punk driven version of a marching band. And to be fair, they've always been a punk marching band, but, now they're moving into the area of noise reserved for Sonic Youth and Jesus And Mary Chain. "Eat Your Wife And Kiss The Barbecue" is a further step in that direction. I think it's going to take seeing them live to fully appreciate their sound. Fishboy/Red Pony Clock/Mount Righteous Tonig ..Most people in the are familiar with Fishboy's Nom EP, and more importantly with the track "Gabe Saucedo Hates My Guts." Saucedo, of course, being the frontman of California group (and Fishboy label-mate) Red Pony Clock . Last time I was in the same room as Mr. Saucedo he threw a glass of water from the stage which soaked my Mount Righteous bandmate Kendall Smith.
