  • MITZI TAPE 6
Some of my fav Aussies draft us a pure slice of Anti-Monday goodness. Its been clear most of today in London which makes a change from the constant dank rain for the past month… fingers crossed this mix from Mitzi can keep those grey days away!

  • FEATURED ARTIST: Mitzi
Something is happening in Brisbane. The northern city is shedding its reputation as the home of the Brisvegas strip and XXXX beer and becoming a hub for new music. And at the forefront of that movement is disco-wave band MITZI. “Brisbane is really going quite well at the moment” explains Mitzi keyboardist Jad Lee “There are [...]

  • Keljet Interview
They just dropped a mixtape and they are giving us an interview, I think that is fantastic! Keljet hails from the Netherlands and as we like to document environment changes sound. “Electronic dance has always been huge in the Netherlands, and we've been listening to it for a long time already. A lot of big Djs from Holland even made it into the DJ Mag top 100 but their style is significantly different from ours.” It is good to see Keljet diverging from the norm. With their Nu-disco feel it is always a treat to say the next day ...

  • THE ROCK-AFIRE EXPLOSION (Movie Review)
As a child of the 1980's, a trip to  SHOWBIZ PIZZA PLACE  was an event - a momentous occasion that was saved for birthday celebrations and other rare gatherings that warranted more than a simple meal. The Matteson, Illinois, ShowBiz was the one that I'd occasionally be treated to (along with the short-lived, similarly-themed, CELEBRATION STATION in Park Forest, IL), and what made the trip even better was the fact that ShowBiz was conveniently located directly next door to TOYS R US. The approach to ShowBiz was met by a long entry hallway, dimly-lit, but adorned with fake movie ...

  • Mitzi
So. Mitzi . I guess there's a lot of buzz behind this band. Or something. Or at least there was a year or so ago when they released what may or may not have been their debut EP. I dunno. No idea whatsoever. My finger is far too removed from the pulse to have any idea what's going on. At all. However. What I do know. Is that, "Hey, these songs are really fun!" Anyways. A question for those of you that "pay attention to things." Have these dudes done anything since they released this EP? Because if so ...

  • Tune-Yards / Mitzi / Outerwaves
Brisbane Powerhouse - Sun Jan 22 Otherwise known as Dom Stephens from Oh Ye Denver Birds, Outerwaves is one man and some technology, singing like a distorted choirboy angel and looping it over beats tapped out on his pads. It sounds a lot like that Thom Yorke album, The Eraser, but you’ve got a much better chance of getting to see this guy live than Thom Yorke. I saw Mitzi a few nights ago at The Tivoli, and they sound almost exactly the same at this venue only now I can hear the bongo drums i ...

  • The Whitest Boy Alive / Mitzi
The Tivoli - Thu Jan 29 Mitzi are a well-chosen support act, and not just because they’re broadly in the same genre as the headliner without being quite good enough to outshine them. It’s also because their disco tunes highlight the problem with picking a single genre and mining it to the exclusion of all else. They do it well, and their singer’s voice is a perfect match for their sound, but it all blurs together and after half an hour I’m sated. That’s definitely not true of The Whitest Boy A ...

  • Tune-Yards
The impressive and intricate live show of Tune-Yards (pictured) hits Brisbane Powerhouse on Sunday Jan 22, and it’s a date you’ll want to keep with news that Merrill Garbus will have her regular horns and bass band fleshing out the shouty, shimmering tunes contained within 2011’s whokill. (Google ‘Tune-Yards + The Roots’ if you need a nudge.) Mitzi’s laidback disco beats and fellow locals Outerwaves support, with DJ Private Velodrome keeping things moving along nicely. Tickets are $45.50+bf from ...

  • OTR's Favorite Singles of 2011
Hope you had a great Christmas! Ready for New Years?!? For fun I went through my 2011 playlists and picked out some of my favorite singles of the year. I arranged them in some type of cohesive order, but not really best to worst or anything. The only exceptions being track one & two M83's "Midnight City" and Gotye's "Somebody I Used to Know" that are probably my two favorite singles of the year. I included links where you can read posts we did on OTR throughout the year, grab the mp3, check out the video or all of ...

This one is a new one, dropped into my inbox by Future Classic, that Australian label who brought you Flight Facilities. As part of their compilation series of Australian bands covering French hits, Future Classic introduce us to Mitzi, reviving the vintage cosmic disco sounds of French-Canadian band, Zig Zag. Listen to the original track from the 70s here: [Zig Zag - Voyage Voyage] You can download Mitzi’s version in its entirety by going here.
