bilderoverkill hasse ich in der regel. aber wenn sich eine band so fein in szene setzt, dann will ich das auch veröffentlicht wissen. zudem halte ich auch das plattencover für eine exzellente arbeit des grafikers. doch nun zum eigentlichen, der musik, vorab aber die markierungspfosten: 1) hearts & plugs veröffentlichte, 2) ein neues werk von the lovely few , 3) "the orionids" erschien am 19. april. es handelt sich dabei um den zweiten auswurf auf besagtem label, den das trio aus columbia wagte. in einer als "the meteor series" bezeichneten reihe bildet die aktuelle ep den zweitling, dem bereits "the perseids" (10. 04.) vorausgegangen war. das electro- folk- pop- engagierte/infizierte ensemble entstand um 2005, als sich mike mewborne mit drei freunden zusammentat. mit "long division" gab es zwei jahre später einen ersten release zu feiern, der noch unter dem moniker mikey mew and the lovely few veröffentlicht wurde. die mitglieder gingen später auseinander und erst 2009 kam es zu einer neugruppierung, welche das "the limited abilities of man" album, nun bereits unter dem fortan bestehenden pseudonym the lovely few, feiern konnte. neben mike mewborne sind seine frau kate und der langjährige freund alan davis am start. gemeinsam begann man 2011 mit den arbeiten an "the perseids", dessen titel sich an einen instrumentaltrack von "long division" anlehnt. mehrere alben bzw. eps sind geplant, die meteoritenschauern gewidmet sind. in diesem jahr heuerte man bei hearts and plugs an. "the orionids" ist atmosphärisches dichtes gewirk, aus dem sich die stimmen, von hall gefangen, entwinden suchen, keyboard cords vorgaben machen und flächige beats halt geben. die mixtur aus elektronischen und akustischen elementen scheuert wie sand auf dem blanken grund der badewanne. ein wenig einhören braucht es da zuweilen. doch es funktioniert, etwas schmieren gehört dazwischen, phantasie oder empathie für die beteiligten. bin gespannt, was Ihr davon haltet. <a href="http://thelovelyfew.bandcamp.com/album/the-orionids"&amp ...

On first listen, the first thing that struck me was how complicated this album is. The album I’m referring to Fog Electric by North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO for short), a mammoth 10 track meaty offering due for release via the Kscope imprint (home to my favorite band Thief">The Pineapple Thief). What North Atlatic Oscillation is putting out basically, is a collection of found sound and electronica mathematically arranged into a beautiful patchwork of songs almost resembling music – because, well, it’s not music. They released a self-titled EP and their debut album ( To The Treetops! ) last year that somehow slipped under our radar. 2nd single from Norwegian prog/indie act Do You Love Melena?, a new act featuring members from Pow Pow and Rumble in Rhodos. Look for the band's self-titled debut "Marathon" to be released on April 20 via Fysisk Format. RIYL Mew, Mars Volta and/or maybe Muse.

Although Crystal Voyagers may not share much common sonic ground with the likes of Mew & The Raveonettes & Choir of Young Believers & Efterklang (well, they may tread the odd blade of grass trampled by those last two), they already seem as though they may well follow the aforementioned four out of Scandi homelands to gallivant into a more international conscience. The first time it happens, it seems deliberate. As Team Me create a sumptuous swell of sound the stage lights go off, plunging the Norwegian six-piece into darkness. It creates, for those seven or eight seconds, and extra intensity to their sound – accentuating the music because, aside from the day-glo stickers on Marius D.
