  • 1st CLASS SINGLES FROM SCOTLAND
I know that most of the stuff I rave on about tends to be from years and indeed decades ago. But how about recalling some cracking singles by Scottish singers or bands from more recent times.  In no particular order of preference mp3 : Paul Haig - Trip Out The Rider (Radio Mix) The original version can be found on the 2009 LP Relive but a series of mixes, including one by Fred Deakin of Lemon Jelly were put out as a limited edition 7" single or download in November 2010.   Long-awaited new material from Paul Haig is expected sometime soom. mp3 ...

  • Yusuf Azak – Prizefighter EP
I’m always somewhat baffled by the output of Song, by Toad Records – some of it like Meursault I absolutely fall in love with, whilst others are just so very lo-fi that I simply struggle with the noise – have a listen to their 2012 Sampler to hear what I’m talking about. Lucky for me [...] Yusuf Azak – Prizefighter EP was originally published on The Blue Walrus

  • Buy Expensive Plastic, You Capitalist Pigs! ..
Hey, look, I'm alive! Surprised? I am. Record Store Day is coming up this Saturday, so I figured I should make some attempt at doing something here, even though I am Scotland's laziest music blogger. Me and RSD don't really get on that much, in part because I don't buy much vinyl, and in part because I call shops shops, not stores. For a more enthusiastic bit about record shops hop over to our pals at Echoes and Dust . One good thing about Record Store Day is that you can always catch some bands playing for ...

  • Coming attractions: Whatever Gets You Throug ..
WHAT: Debuting a major collaborative work of narrative fiction featuring a litany of Scottish talent WHY: ""Whatever Gets You Through The Night is a compilation of stories happening across Scotland between the hours of midnight and 4am. From a heartfelt goodbye on the shore of Loch Lomond to an encounter in a late night Aberdeen taxi queue, we meet lost souls, party animals and dreamers, in a snapshot of an entire nation at its most vulnerable and revealing. It exists as a multimedia live show, an album, a collection of writing, and a film which will tour after the live ...

  • I Bloody Love London
As you might know, I have spent the last three days or so down in London, partly to see Meursault play at the Old Blue Last on Tuesday, partly to meet some music industry people for various reasons and partly to catch up with a couple of old friends. I used to live down there, [...]

  • Toadcast #219 – The Procast
The Procast is so called because this week has been an awfy professional one.  The third Meursault album is approaching, and because there are publishers, managers, bookers and all sorts involved in this one we had to have a Serious Meeting about it and make sure the planning was all being done properly. We did [...]

  • Friday is More or Less Back on the Rails
So, after the giddy nonsense of SXSW and then returning to the rather intense preparations for the third Meursault album, I managed to write a couple of posts last night, I have a gig on Saturday, and things seem more or less back to normal. In random label news we have now – with the [...]

  • Meursault + Neverest Songs @ Old Blue Last ..
I’m very excited to announce a very late notice show with Edinburgh’s Meursault at Old Blue Last on the 27th March. It’s the first show that I’v put on since calling it a day at the end of last year and I’m very excited to have them down. I want to stress that this isn’t GDLI getting back going again and I won’t be putting on a lot of shows or anything. I’m very much enjoyed the back of it to be honest! This is helping out some friends and an incredible ...

  • Dolfinz - Teenage Bloom
From the free new Song, By Toad 2012 sampler (which also features among plentiful delights a new Meursault demo, the third album currently set for mid-July), a band following Copy Haho out of Stonehaven and a track that will come June be making up 25% of a sound of lo-fi Scotland/Manchester 12" on the label with PAWS, Waiters and Sex Hands. This is what Yuck aimed for and fell short of, pure early 90s harmonic pop shot out of a cannon and landing in a net constructed entirely from Kevin Shields' pedal board. Teenage Bloom by Dolfinz
