Mellow

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

Mellow Gold is the third studio album by American alternative rock musician Beck , as well as his major label debut. Mellow Gold was released on March 1, 1994 (see 1994 in music ) on the strength of the surprise hit " Loser " (U.S. #10). Informed by the irreverent Gen X slacker and p... Read More

  • Crocodiles - "Endless Flowers" CD Review (Fr ..
You have to love a band like San Diego’s Crocodiles for being able to channel their obvious influences (Jesus & Mary Chain / Echo & the Bunnymen / Spacemen 3) into creating a sound that mines this genre without sounding derivative. San Diego’s Crocodiles are releasing their third disc, Endless Flowers , on June 5th on Frenchkiss Records which is a ten-track (42 minute) slab of psychedelic, fuzzed-out garage rock. Note: for vinyl junkies, there is a limited edition LP pressing on red/white marble vinyl available through Souterrain Transmissions' Web Store . Recorded in Berlin last summer, Endless Flowers is the first album ...

Cheap Girls and You Blew It! are two of PropertyOfZack’s favorite bands, so we thought it’d be a great idea to put the two together for a new PropertyOfZack Playlist feature. Check out the Playlists and listen to the songs on Spotify while reading everyone’s thoughts! (Click on image to listen in Spotify) Minus the Bear - Fine + 2 PTS MTB has been one of my favorite bands since before I was wearing Hot Topic pants and listening to Mudvayne. Picking one song by them was hard. Fuck you, OMNI rules. Shout Out Louds - Hurry Up Let’s ...

  • THE CINEMATIC ORCHESTRA – Presents In Motion ..
(Ninja Tune/Inertia) UK’s premier filmic collective and assorted friends get mellow Since releasing their breakthrough LP Ma Fleur in 2007, The Cinematic Orchestra haven’t put much music to tape apart from a couple low-key tracks on the near-requisite (and in their case, exquisite) Late Night Tales compilation three years ago. Chief ideologist/sample king Jason Swinscoe, however, wasn’t intent to keep the band resting on their laurels; thus, we get a long-awaited new release under the iconic ‘ ...

  • The Agonist - "Prisoners"
Prisoners is the third release by Montreal's The Agonist, and again the band offers mellow death metal with the occasional clean vocals. I've seen the group occasionally referred to as metalcore due to this approach, but really they're not. The Agonist writes some crunchy, brutal songs that will have even the most jaded metalhead, fist-pumping along.

Visit Indie Shuffle to download. Sounds like: Ólafur Arnalds, Múm Song: Sigur Rós - Ég Anda [download here ] What's so good? Though a couple weeks remain until Sigur Rós unleash their album Valtari to the world, yesterday the band streamed the full album via their website . Unfortunately, we missed it. So, what’s that mean? Well, it leaves us having heard just a few of the songs on the album. Today, The Music Ninja shared another one with us, “Ég Anda.” As expected, it’s a mellow, ambient journey of Icelandic post-rock — everything we’ve come to expect from Sigur ...

  • The Great Escape 2012 // The 405 Review
The 405 team was out in force for The Great Escape this year, so rather than bringing you a band-by-band account of our time in Brighton, our editors/writers have chosen their five favourite bands from the event. Who came out on top? Read on to find out... Photos by Tim Boddy James Canham Swords">Forest Swords - Tim and myself arrived partway through Swords">Forest Swords set (they started at the same time AlunaGeorge finished) to a stunned and mostly silent crowd. The two of them on stage (one at the mic, laptop and electronics and another on the bass ...

  • Houses - The Lexington, London 10/05/12
It's been a terrible week for music. Less than a week ago the Beastie Boys' MCA passed away followed by the news that Death Grips have cancelled all tour dates to work on a new album. Hopefully a trip to Houses ' debut London performance in the fashionable hangout that is the Lexington will lift my spirits. Though numbers are less than amiable to begin with this does not dampen the duo's mood who happily talk and pose for photos with fans. This is a band which truly enjoy the company of their fans unlike many bands who seem ...

  • Live Review: Kimbra + Daniel Merriweather + ..
Relatively unknown musician Sam Lawrence was the first act of the night, and was met with a warm reception from the only half filled theatre at the time. With not so much as a wave, he launched into his lyrical songs complimented by himself on the piano. Considering that a Google search on Lawrence provides next to no results, an introduction to his set or some of his songs would have been appreciated. Although Lawrence is clearly talented, his mellow tracks would have been better suited to a smaller venue where audiences can become immersed in his performance. In such ...

  • SOUNDS FROM THE OTHER CITY Salford 6 May 201 ..
In its seventh year, I finally made it to multi-venue one day festival Sounds From The Other City but nearly ended up spending all of it in just one one venue. The day started – and ended - at St Philip’s Church one of the twelve stages for the one-day festival, today programmed by Hey Manchester . I’m not sure what factors led opening act Dancing Years to change their name from Joseph and David but factual accuracy may have been one of them. Performing as a six-piece - grand piano, violin, melodica, guitar, bass and drums - this felt like an ensemble ...

  • Tinariwen - Live At Shepherd's Bush Empire, ..
At first glance it looks as though José González might be dwarfed by the stage at Shepherd’s Bush Empire. He’s one man with a guitar and the noisy crowd are packed in like the proverbial sardines. Luckily things calm down about four songs in, which is just as well since González, with his inspired combination of classical Spanish and folk guitar, is a quiet revelation. Unostentatious to the nth degree, the subtly catchy hooks of ‘Cycling Trivialities’ compliment a mellow, perfectly modulated vocal, and hush finally descends. By the cover of Massive Attack’s ‘Teardrop’ it’s clear ...

  • Stubb - S/T
Tenacity and perseverance…two of the most essential personality traits to have as a rock musician in this day and age. As the old saying goes, if at first you don’t succeed, try, try, try again. This is no more pertinent than when discussing a certain Jack Dickinson. In 2006 Jack put together the initial line-up for Stubb; a hard rocking stoner/psych/jamming three piece. Fronting the band and cranking his guitar, Stubb very quickly built up a strong live reputation in the UK scene but no sooner had the train started rolling when the wheels fell off ...

Today we continue our  series of posts  that feature the exclusive premiere of video from GSW’s reunion shows in 2010, lovingly shot and put together by our pal  Mike Wren . As with our last post, God Street Wine guitarist Lo Faber tells the tale of the song in the video. Here’s Lo’s take on Other Shore as well as the video of GSW performing the tune at the Gramercy Theatre on  July 9, 2010 . Ever wanted to rock out on one of the most famous mountaintops in Sydney? Of course you have, and the innovative Newton’s Nation festival allowed for just that. The iconic Mount Panorama became a hub for the three-day camping festival in Bathurst, the AU review went along to document one of the three days. We arrived in the early afternoon to a picturesque view while behind us a BMX ramp was drawing people away from their tents - tricks which seemed almost impossible were pulled off by domestic and international stars. In addition to this, punters were treated to various ...
