Magic Bullets

Magic Bullets formed in San Francisco, California in 2004 with musicians primarily hailing from the Bay area who had spent most of their musically formative years playing with or alongside one another in various punk rock outfits. Vocalist Philip Benson and guitarist and primary son... Read More

  • Motion Studies
We never saw the connection, but now that it's arrived it makes sense that there's a thread between The Weeknd and Junior Boys. We have Motion Studies to thank for the enlightening line drawing work. Motion Studies is fronted by former Tempo No Tempo inertia-man Tyler McCauley, who spent the time since TNT ended playing with Grooms and Teen Witch. He's left Grooms and is joined by ex-members of Grooms, Night Manager, and Magic Bullets for his Motion Studies project. Motion Studies s...

With the release of the seven track EP Much Ado About, San Francisco indie pop five-piece Magic Bullets are now officially finished as a band (don’t act surprised — we’ve been mourning the break-up for quite some time now). They’ve left us with one more treat, though. in the form of a new music video [...]

  • Magic Bullets – Much Ado About EP
Bid adieu to Magic Bullets; the Much Ado About EP will be the San Francisco band’s last release, ever. But wipe away your tears, because it’s a fitting farewell, at least. The seven song EP is short but sweet, ending the band’s seven-year career as upbeat, brit-rock revivalists on a sort of high note.  If [...]

  • Magic Bullets – What Took You So Long?
Just an old time sucker for a jangling chord and while the vocals on this one might not match it for swoonsomeness they do little to endanger the warm fuzzy feeling created by the gently tugged vibrating guitar appendage. Magic Bullets have been around for a bit, 2004 to be precise, but it looks like [...]

  • Magic Bullets - "Much Ado About" EP
The San Francisco-based band Magic Bullets are set to release their new EP Much Ado About today on Mon Amie Records.  Sadly it will be their last as the band has decided to break up to pursue new musical directions after seven years together.  The seven-song EP is a lasting testament to their emotion-packed 80's-inspired jangle-pop. "Unlearned" opens the album with the nostalgic sound of a cassette tape being put into a radio and follows with an upbeat and danceable track of reflection.  "Time And Again" features tumbling drums and flickering guitars with an infectiously catchy chorus.  Stand out ...

  • The Daily Choice: Terry Malts - I Do
Terry Malts - I Do from Slumberland Records on Vimeo. As a former fan of the debunked Magic Bullets, it’s been difficult for me to give love to the very much adored Terry Malts. I hear their thrashy, melodic almost-punk, and it seems an ill-fitting soundtrack to the Morrisey-esque days of Magic Bullets. I of course [...]

At 14, Melissa Sances was overweight, acned, and socially awkward. Life at home with her brothers and single mother wasn’t easy. She took a handful of Benadryl and Valium to escape. She entered, instead, the world of biological psychiatry.

  • Bands to Watch #230: Magic Bullets
Words by Tom Mughal It sounds petty, but I’ve never been able to listen to the Smiths purely because of the fact I really dislike Morrissey‘s voice. This may be the reason why I’ve actually enjoyed Magic Bullets, a San Francisco-born indie pop band that has been dancing around commercial success for over 7 years now. The boys manage to emulate the best bits about the iconic Mancunian ‘80s band; their melodies are employed straight... Continue reading Bands to Watch #230: Magic Bullets

  • Magic Bullets - s/t (2010)

  • The Daily Choice: Terry Malts - Something Ab ..
I’ve been waiting to hear the new project from the folks behind Magic Bullets for a while now.  Magic Bullets were a lanky sort of garage-lounge act and I’d heard that Terry Malts was the thrashy punk phoenix rising from those ashes.  ”Something About You” certainly kicks their former incarnation down the stairs and in [...]
