    Recommended Show: THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 2012 SNOWDEN @ MERCURY LOUNGE 217 E Houston St New York, NY 10002 $10, 9:30PM How many years ago did I see Snowden at the now defunct Siberia Bar? It's hard to say, but it was the band's first visit to the City--and it was ages ago. They've had some pretty big gigs since then (I remember when they opened for Kings of Leon a few years later). Tonight, they headline a show at the Mercury Lounge. Bob Mould @ City Winery Primus @ Gramercy Theatre tUnE-YaRds @ Lincoln Center Laura Cantrell @ Hill Country Bjork ...

  • Country Mice Playing Cake Shop This Friday ( ..
    We've been hearing a lot about Brooklyn's Country Mice over the past few days and decided it time to get on board. Often described as a mix between Wilco and Drive By Truckers with tinges of Neil Young, this country rock trio can bring it. We are pumped to see them rock the Cake Shop in NYC on Friday with Little Gold and Grand Rapids (doors at 8PM.) Hear their in-your-face, vamped guitar anthem "Festval" above. Their debut album, Twister is out now. See you out there folks!

  • MP3: Sex Ray Vision - "All Of You" ft. Cilla ..
    Have I got a gem for you.  While not the typical kind of post you might not expect from OSF, my purpose in contributing to this blog is to share good music, regardless of stardom, labels, cashmoney, or experience.  This might be an EDM (Electronic Dance Music) track but the little gold nugget is the star of the vocals.  Cilla Chan is a 19 year old Singaporean Stanford student who is gorgeous, smart (I mean, c'mon, she's at Stanford), and has an amazing voice.  Granted, I might be biased because I'm of Asian heritage myself, but I ...

  • Little Gold – “Sisters & Friends” / Sophomor ..
    Earlier in the year I reviewed Woods’ album “Sun and Shade” album. Well, before that album, one of the members of the band was Christian DeRoeck. But he left in 2009 to form his own band, known as Little Gold. Their sophomore album “Weird Freedom” dropped August 23rd, but I just heard the first single [...]

    Isn’t it just crazy how fast one week blends into another, and then another, and before you know it, another month is almost over? It’s likely that some of you have missed the Best New Releases for either week one, two and/or week three of August, and as unreal as it seems, August is quickly [...]

  • mp3 :: Little Gold > Sisters & Friends
    Weird Freedom is the latest release from Brooklyn’s own Little Gold. While technically it is their second LP, Weird Freedom marks two firsts. It is the first release for the band’s own Loud Baby imprint, and it is their first LP as a proper band. The country twang which you may remember from their earlier [...]

  • New releases for the week of August 23, 2011 ..
    Perhaps most exciting (for us) this week for new records is a free downloadable one from Los Angeles act IE called Choose Your own Adventure . We just heard about this one, so sorry for not giving more advance notice. Tons of other albums come out this week that we're also excited about though. Indie faves CSS come out with a new one, rapper Game returns with R.E.D. ,and get ready to laugh with comedian Wyatt Cenac . Compilation albums have a special place in our hearts this week with Muppets: The Green Album (pictured) and Live from Tokyo ...

  • Loved song of the day: Little Gold “Sisters ..
    Wow, I love this song! The bassline, the drums, the jangly guitars, the vocals, – the feeling – - it’s all very close to perfect. This is Little Gold from Brooklyn, a band with ex-members of Woods, Meneguar and Ancient Sky, and they will release their second LP “Weird Freedom” on the band’s own label Loud Baby Sounds, on August 23. I said “their second album”, but that’s only half-right. This is Christian DeRoeck (ex-Woods) second album as Little Gold, but … →
