I've had no qualms in saying that this year's MF has been pretty weak, especially when compared with the greats. As usual, the quality of the songs was spread out in a very frustrating way (Week 4 being almost universally strong while Weeks 1 & 3 being incredibly weak overall. We can't get enough of the drum machine in Lisa Miskovsky 's Why Start A Fire . The song like the greatest 80's power ballads all wrapped up into one present for 2012. From the sound of it, week four will likely be the strongest heat in a week year for Melodifestivalen. "Play with fire, but you're so cold" Lisa Miskovsky has been around the Swedish music scene for awhile now. She started out as a mostly folksy, acoustic--almost country--artist but has experimented with a more subtle electronic pop sound as she's released more material. This is no dancefloor stormer, but it's definitely glossier than her first recordings. There's a nice collision of sounds here, an augmented version of her acoustic guitar pop. Plus, it's catchy as hell. The chorus has a big, anthemic sound to it--perfect for the radio. And Miskovsky's vocals, as usual, are ...

Apparently I had the titles mixed up -- Lisa Miskovsky's new album "Violet sky" will be released on November 26 with the first single "Lover" coming out on September 27. I did have the production credits right though, it was indeed recorded with Björn Yttling of Peter Bjorn and John.
