England

John Winston Ono Lennon, MBE (9 October 1940 – 8 December 1980) was an English singer-songwriter who rose to fame as one of the founding members of The Beatles. With Paul McCartney, he formed one of the most influential and successful songwriting partnerships of the 20th century. His... Read More

  • Ingrid Michaelson’s ‘Blood Brothers’ video ..
Ingrid Michaelson has been happily skipping along the border between indie and mainstream for a while now, and her new music video for Blood Brothers does a pretty good job of really straddling that line. In the video, a team of hair and makeup geniuses turn her into Marilyn Monroe, John Lennon, Lady Gaga, Gene [...]

  • Crocodiles - "Endless Flowers" CD Review (Fr ..
You have to love a band like San Diego’s Crocodiles for being able to channel their obvious influences (Jesus & Mary Chain / Echo & the Bunnymen / Spacemen 3) into creating a sound that mines this genre without sounding derivative. San Diego’s Crocodiles are releasing their third disc, Endless Flowers , on June 5th on Frenchkiss Records which is a ten-track (42 minute) slab of psychedelic, fuzzed-out garage rock. Note: for vinyl junkies, there is a limited edition LP pressing on red/white marble vinyl available through Souterrain Transmissions' Web Store . Recorded in Berlin last summer, Endless Flowers is the first album ...

  • Ingrid Michaelson - Blood Brothers
While dishing on human connection despite great differences, Ingrid Michaelson transforms her track "Blood Brothers" into a most excellent, visual experience. God knows how long the loveable songstress spent in the chair for this one, but the result is well worth it. Check out her fascinating, time-lapsed transformations from Ingrid to a variety of impeccable, celebrity look-alikes...and back again! "Cameos" include the likes of David Bowie, Lady Gaga, John Lennon, and Amy Winehouse, to name a few. The song is from Ingrid's album Human Again. The video was directed by Dylan Steinberg and Shervin Lainez.

  • Song of the day: "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halse ..
Paul McCartney's solo albums have long been the subject of derision, and none more so than 1971's Ram, which was just reissued with bonus cuts. I've always had real affection for Paul's solo stuff (and, unlike most people, find much of John Lennon's solo material almost unlistenable with all the political sloganeering and Yoko references). Thankfully, many of today's critics have a new appreciation for Ram.  In fact, the All Music Guide argues that "in retrospect it looks like nothing so much as the first indie pop album." That description suits me just fine.

  • This Week in Music History: May 20 - 26 -- J ..
Filed under: News , Exclusive , Pop Culture , Music Appreciation Hulton Archive The depths of May seems to be the perfect season for fomenting protest. Perhaps that explains Fire">Arcade Fire 's act of supporting Quebec student protesters on Saturday Night Live recently. Win Butler and crew's act of solidarity wasn't the only rebellious music moment that occurred this week in history. This was the week that Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young wrote "Ohio" in 1970 and warned everyone that Nixon was coming. The times, they also a-changed forever because someone was born, and because someone else decided to sit ...

  • HONKIE OVERLOAD: Why Kristen Wiig's SNL good ..
I am blinded by the glare of white skin, honkeys celebrating the honkeyness of a honky moment, the culmination of honkey culture for the past decade. This clip is the embodiment of the self-congratulatory culture that bridges the divide between television and the people who sit on the internet to overrate it. The clip contains A-list honky celebs, blog darlings who are the mouthpiece of modern high-end honkeyism. It is the beginning of an era. It is the end of an era. The clip was intended to 'say goodbye to Kristen Wiig', the most notable SNL castmember who was basically ...

  • Dead Kennedys, Beny Moré, and Zeppelin: The ..
The Quietus : “He’s not even the best drummer in the Beatles!” John Lennon famously replied when asked if Ringo Starr was the best drummer in the world. As to how much this remark was meant in jest we’ll probably never know, but it nonetheless perfectly illustrates an old and unfortunate – not to mention largely inaccurate – cliché: that drummers are perennially the poor relation of every other member of the band. Even when you look back at some of the greatest drummers in rock the qualities on which their fame is largely based is usually less than flattering and ...

The grimey blues of *‘How Do You Sleep?’* has to be down as one of *John Lennon*’s greatest solo rock songs. It features the sort of grunge that *Kurt Cobain* would find himself spearheading about 20 years later. Every band breaks up, even the band’s that have seemingly been together forever like...

We’ve already seen the remaining members of the Beatles convene to complete two of the late John Lennon songs, as part of their mid-1990s anthology series. Now, Paul McCartney could be approached to do it again with one of George Harrison’s unfinished works. Harrison, who died at age 58 in 2001, has been in the news this week as the [...]

Walk Me Through how Daily Bread came about: It pretty much started as a photojournal in 2009: Daily Bread PA. I started following a lot of artists around and taking pictures of them. It started with a lot of Pittsburgh artists. As Mac and Wiz got real big it spread to a lot of artists in the industry. I ended up linking with ASAP Rocky. We hit each other up and met. It was last summer I brought Mac through Rocky’s spot and we all hit it off, it was cool. We’ve seen you rock a lot of ...
