  • Field Day 2012 Line Up Additions
Field Day have confirmed a raft of new additions including Modeselektor, Liars and more. Held in Victoria Park, Field Day is one of London's most prominent one day events. A cross-section of indie, electronics and more the event regularly pulls in exclusive performances from seminal acts. 2012 looks to be no exception. In a bulletin this morning Field Day organisers confirmed appearances from German bass munchers Modeselektor, experimental American types Liars and more. Having dominated 2011, Blawan opens the New Year by confirming his involvement with Field Day . Elsewhere, Dev Hynes returns to London under his Blood Orange guise ...

  • The Apple Cart Returns
The Apple Cart is set to return this summer with an eclectic mixture of music, comedy and art. Brought to you by the same team who birthed Field Day and Underage, The Apple Cart is one of London's more unusual one day events. Perfect for families, last summer's instalment merged new music with art and spoken word. Returning for a fresh instalment in Victoria Park, this summer's event will arrive slightly earlier to avoid clashing with the Olympics. Taking place on June 3rd, the first names on the bill for The Apple Cart have been announced. Noah ...

  • Live: Hollie, Sophy, Suki Starting to Happen ..
With a Jing Jang here and a Jang Jong there, barring the ever-illusive Joe Lean remnants of the inferred major-screwing, LP-scrapping troupe are scattered ubiquitously throughout a seething Shacklewell Arms. Tonight's bunch, adjudged on pure and simply superficial old attire, are out in force to witness TOY whip a four-legged Dalston-centric residency into knowingly lackadaisical, forcedly monochromic action. Conversely, those here congregated muster minimal enthusiasm in indulging in Ralegh Long's brand of lightly melodramatic, folk-lilted chanson: somewhere on the side of the long, lonesome, and meandering road between scrapbook emperor Jeffrey Lewis and perennial prog titans The Tangent ...

  • JEFFREY LEWIS – A Turn In The Dream-Songs ..
(Rough Trade/Remote Control) Deadpan talk-singing over acoustic guitars – yep, it’s anti-folk icon Jeffrey Lewis! Some of this anti-folk stuff is odd – not just for the obvious reasons, either (eccentric vocal delivery, wordy quirky lyrics etc). Because in many ways, it’s merely the fact that the recording is sparse and lo-fi that it attains its rather hip status. If you were to “lush up” the songs on Jeffrey Lewis’ new album (like, multi-tracked guitars, treated drum sounds, the works) you’d ...

  • Field Day 2012 Line Up Expands
The line up for Field Day 2012 has expanded once again with Mazzy Star and Death Grips amongst the latest additions. Formed by a loose coalition of promoters, Field Day is rapidly evolving into one of London's most important one day festivals. Preparations for next summer's event are already under way, with organisers adding several new names to the line up. Ground-breaking American collective Death Grips are set to perform at Field Day, marking a rare return to British soil. Releasing their debut LP 'Ex-Military' as a mixtape earlier this year, the group's mixture of dense rhymes ...

  • Busdriver’s great new video
Sometimes we feature a music video just because it’s so damn visually excellent. Step forward Busdriver and their fairly good pop track ‘Kiss Me Back to Life’, with a video full of neon, glow in the dark craziness. Watching this reminded us of the Jeffrey Lewis album title ‘Last Time I Did Acid I Went Insane’. I should probably mention their album Beaus$Eros is out February 12th.   Story originally posted on SupaJam .

  • The Rosie Taylor Project - Twin Beds
Formed in Leeds, but now based in London, The Rosie Taylor Project follow up their acclaimed debut album with Twin Beds , a record where they have again worked with Wild Beasts producer Richard Formby. Having already played with a whole host of indie-folk legends – including Jeffrey Lewis, Jens Lekman and Camera Obscura- the six-piece have also long been a favourite of the alternative blog community, and the likes of 6Music have given them much praise and airplay. Released on Oddbox Records and with such an impressive background already, will this album be able to bring them up to the next ...

As you might expect from a group as interesting as The Unthanks, Diversions is not a straight covers album. Rather it is a re-imagining, a project in its own right, comparable to many other ‘versions’ projects that have emerged from the folk musicians over the years – from cult albums like Jeffrey Lewis’s 12 Crass [...] ( Read more... ) Categories: Records Tags: Anthony & the Johnsons , Robert Wyatt , The Unthanks
