He's released albums with Isobel Campbell, The Gutter Twins, Soulsavers, Queens Of The Stone Age, and even his old group Screaming Trees. Records by his influential band, The Gun Club, were released locally and sold healthily, particularly debut Fire of Love , belying the band’s relative-obscurity overseas. The Gun Club toured Australia too, in September and October 1983, with Spencer P Jones and Billy Hood Jr from The Johnnys actually joining the band after two members refused to board the plane. Fusing a distorted view of Americana with some often searingly personal songwriting, the band left a compact, influential legacy. A new tribute album has been arranged, focussing on the work of frontman Jeffrey Lee Pierce. Sadly passing away due to a brain haemorrhage in 1996, the new album uses fresh renditions of unreleased material. News: Cave, Perkins Pay Tribute To Gun Club’ ..The likes of Nick Cave, Mick Harvey and Tex Perkins will appear on a new compilation of previously unreleased works by Jeffrey Lee Pierce. The Gun Club frontman died from a brain hemorrhage in 1996, but material – mostly unfinished and recorded on cassette – had recently been unearthed by Pierce’s latter day collaborator Cypress Grove while clearing out his loft. Following 2009’s We Are Only Riders collection comes The Journey Is Long , a sort of cross between Mermaid Avenue and Josh Homme’s Dessert Sessions project, which features performances and collaborations by artists including Mick Harvey, Hugo Race, Warren ...Mess and Noise20 March 2012
