Can announce 'The Lost Tapes'Arriving on June 18th, 2012, is the long awaited release of the ultra influential Can 's The Lost Tapes featuring tracks from 1968-1977, in a three CD box set. Found by Irmin Schmidt and long time collaborator Jono Podmore when the legendary Can studio in Weilerswist was sold to the German Rock N Pop Museum, the master tapes were found while dismantling the studio. The tracks had been unused for years, sitting on the shelves of the studio where the band used to record, with no one knowing exactly what they were. New Can Box Set Full Of Unreleased Music... ..Can’t get enough Can? Pitchfork : A collection of previously unreleased recordings from the seminal krautrock band Can will be released via Mute on June 19 in the U.S. and June 18 in Europe. The Lost Tapes is a 3xCD box set of studio and live recordings as well as soundtrack works for films that never saw release. The box set was compiled from over 30 hours of music found at Can’s studio in Weilerswist, Germany, as the space was disassembled and moved to the German Rock N Pop Museum in Gronau, Germany. Can fans, hold hands: Mute releasing triple- ..Can, the legendary krautrock weirdos that influenced everyone from LCD Soundsystem to James Murphy solo (probably a few others too), have been riding the reissue train lately, with a deluxe edition of 1971’s Tago Mago out last year and reissues of all their albums in a vinyl box set on the horizon. That’s great and all, but you should really be smacking yourself hard if you haven’t heard all those Can albums already (pre- Landed , at least). Already acclaimed for his work with The Field , a recent visit to Axel Wilner sparked off a few ideas in the producer's mind. Stopping off in Cologne, the producer hooked up with the collective which surrounds the MAGAZINE imprint. Assisting on the label's first release from Cologne Tape, Alex Wilner then began work on a series of new recordings.
