Harlem Shakes

Harlem Shakes

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

Harlem Shakes were an American indie rock band from New York , formed in 2006 and signed to Gigantic Music . The band disbanded in September 2009 after a hiatus following the release of their first full length album, 'Technicolor Health', which received very positive reviews from cri... Read More

@KRBronson on Thursday at SXSW (also see: Jesus and Mary Chain review): Arms makes indie-rock for people who like indie-rock, with sharp guitar and bass lines, sharper lyrics and arresting shifts in tempo and mood that toggle adeptly between nice and gnarly. Mastermind Todd Goldstein once played in Harlem Shakes, who had their 15 minutes [...]

  • No future no past
Cloud Nothings - No Future / No Past from Urban Outfitters on Vimeo . Since Harlem Shakes? — that feels Important". Comunque è stato lo stesso ...

  • Late Night: Wu Lyf
Manchester's WU LYF is one of the more overlooked bands of last year, and their debut Go Tell Fire To The Mountain, full of energetic, effervescent constructions. They made their television debut on Letterman last night, with a rendition of "Heavy Pop" that is as good of an intro to the quartet as you'll ever need. They're like the British Harlem Shakes! Who wouldn't want two servings of that dish? Watch it below.

  • Song of the Day: Harlem Shakes – Strictly Ga ..
Today’s song of the day is a tribute to the ephemeral state of good indie music. Today I simultaneously discovered Harlem Shakes and mourned their passing…apparently back in 2009.

  • Music: Music Review: ARMS: Summer Skills
When Harlem Shakes ’ Technicolor Health arrived in 2009, it felt like it should’ve been the start of something—the next generation of jittery New York indie rock, perhaps, or at least a year-end list shoe-in. Instead, the band got passing reviews and imploded, leaving guitarist Todd Goldstein alone with his old solo project, ARMS . One EP and two rounds of CMJ/SXSW festival runs later, the band has emerged as a full-fledged four-piece with the self-released Summer Skills , an exuberant effort with masterful musicianship and clever, knotty lyrics. Goldstein’s new players are the record’s key ingredient: Summer ...

  • ARMS
"Fleeced" MP3 from the album Summer Skills 2011 iTunes BY NICK CROW | Jonk Music With the break-up of Harlem Shakes in 2009, what was once a side project for Todd Goldstein has reemerged as his main project in the form of ARMS' sophomore offering Summer Skills . Upon first listen, it is clear that this album has a formula and what works is that it doesn't attempt to do too much at once. The first track, "Emily Sue, Cont'd" is a charming song that finds a perfect mixture of guitar driven progression and well thought out lyrics. Almost R ...

  • Now Playing: Arms
Todd Goldstein has had things shaking in the indie world for some time. The amicable Brooklynite spent years carving delicious hooks into the musical output of Harlem Shakes; a once beloved NYC outfit that sadly called it quits in 2009 (though their performance for our cameras lives on!). During that time, Goldstein nursed a solo project in the background dubbed ARMS, a lo-fi-ish yet poppy pursuit just waiting for the perfect opportunity to bust out of the bedroom. His '08 release Kids Aflam

  • ARMS Interview - Brooklyn, NY
It’s extremely gratifying to know that people like Todd Goldstein exist in the music industry. The former guitarist of NY institution, Harlem Shakes , has created an even better product in ARMS and has just released a wonderful new record, Summer Skills . We were thrilled to be able to talk to Todd about British rappers, the new record, and of course, hand claps. Why the band name ARMS? We imagine it was easier to search for in 2004 before the internet imploded… Back in 2004, when I first started writing the songs that would make up the first ARMS EP ...

Todd Goldstein, back in his Harlem Shakes days / photo by David Greenwald I think I’ve gushed enough about ARMS in the last couple years, so as Summer Skills‘ long-awaited November debut edges closer, here’s the band’s latest, “Glass Harmonica.” Can it save 2k11? It can try. Catch the band at CMJ starting Oct. 19. [...]
