  • Saschienne: "The Innervisions Remixes" - Kom ..

  • Battles - Wall Street (Gui Boratto Remix) ..

  • Gooey Ooze. Battles, Dross Glop.
When it comes to the progressive ingenuity of yesteryear few records could even conceive of doing battle with Gloss Drop : an explorational work of avant-garde invention, it saw the streamlined New York outfit punch well above their weight. It is and was their opus, and it remains revolutionary. This time however, although it may again be Battles' name on Dross Glop (the droll epithet attached to this collection of radical overhauls) and even if their madcap freeform fingerprints may be smeared indelibly all over it they've handed the gloves over to a plethora of pioneering genre straddlers to beat ...

  • Battles - Dross Glop
So one of Clash’s favourite LPs of 2011, ‘Gloss Drop’ has been remixed. This induces mixed emotions. Scanning the list of well-wishers it all looks incisive, but appearances can be deceptive. Gui Boratto kicks things off with ‘Wall Street’, removing the epic delirium with a loping euro kompakt-esque re-run built of convention. ‘Sweetie & Shag’ gets stretched by The Field into a numbing wander into oblivion, whilst ‘Ice Cream’, perhaps the original LP’s best moment, is privy to a frivolous re-rub by Gang Gang Dance. These however are the low points. Where ‘Gloss Drop’ was remarkably alive and capable of inducing synthesesia, it suffered from an autistic mania that may be too much for some listeners. Thankfully here we find modern producers such as Kode9 and Shabazz Palaces grounding its cosmic opera to the bass shaken ground of planet Earth. The sonic terrorist of Kode9 brings new ideas to ‘Africastle’ by shaking up the percussive styles like batshit; it’s a delight and heightens any dancefloor break the trio of Battles ever managed. Likewise Shabazz Palaces’ take ‘White Electric’ and make it very much their warped own, no bad thing on a remix project. Thus overall ‘Dross Glop’ may please and frustrate in equal ...

  • LPZ "Snake & Butterfish"
While South American countries like Chile, Argentina, and Brazil can reliably be counted on for developing high-quality dance producers (e.g. Daniel Klauser , the ZZK collective, and Gui Boratto ), the small, landlocked nation of Paraguay has yet to emerge as an internationally renowned creative hub. Production trio LPZ —billed as the "South America's hottest export since Gisele Bundchen"—is doing its best to change that with the release of a three-song EP, called 1983 , which is out on May 14 through London-based imprint Body Work. "Snake & Butterfish," the EP's final tune, is a slow bit of acid house ...

The three members of New York math-rockers Battles are men of taste, at least judging by the collection of peers they’ve enlisted to remix their songs. Lately, the band has been releasing a series of 12″ remix singles, and we’ve posted the contributions from the Field, Gui Boratto, Gang Gang Dance, Hudson Mohawke, and Shabazz [...]

  • Glopping Dross, Brian DeGraw does Ice Cream. ..
Over the past few months, individuals and artists from The Field and Gui Boratto to Shabazz Palaces have been reconstituting their choicest cuts from Battles'  brain-meltingly brilliant opus, Gloss Drop . It's now the turn of Gang Gang Dance or rather, to be more precise, doolally synth wunderkind Brian DeGraw  who opts to interpret the Matias Aguayo-featuring Ice Cream. If you've been cowering beneath a stone the particles of which were immune to the sublime resonances of the squelchy yet smooth original, it sounds a little something like this . However that was very much very last year and DeGraw ...

  • “when two worlds collide..."
Melancholia - In Retrospect -           The very definition of normal is a study in perceived reality and customary assimilation. Society has standards that help us define a person in terms of success based on these guidelines. Melancholia is the latest cinematic expression of acclaimed director, Lars Von Trier. Within the secluded landscape of a wealthy retreat, Von Trier sets the stage for the earth’s possible annihilation in solitude, confining us to a small hereditary construct; we are presented with very profound questions while examining their inevitable reaction to fate.           The film’s introduction is a fantastic and surreal insight into Lars ...
