Grinderman

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

Grinderman is a rock band formed by Nick Cave, Warren Ellis, Martyn P. Casey and Jim Sclavunos, all of whom are members of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and the band, originally known as Mini Seeds, were formed as "a way to escape the weight of The Bad Seeds." The band's name is inspir... Read More

  • Modcast #120: 2:54
2:54 are a sister act. They make the kind of music that makes you feel things. Not bad things, just things that creep up on you and stay there for a few minutes after the speakers go quiet. Its a musical partnership so important they got matching tattoos on their right arms to seal it, so intuitive they can't even describe it. They treat music like a drug, always after that next aural high. Lucky for them, there's been no shortage of people supporting this habit and their place in the indie hype-o-sphere has been pretty well ...

  • News: Nick Cave’s ‘Wangster’ On Show At Cann ..
Nick Cave’s latest foray into screenwriting has made its international premiere at Cannes. The 52-year-old singer has adapted Matt Bondurant’s novel The Wettest County in the World for the John Hillcoat-directed Lawless , which tells the story of three infamous bootlegging brothers in prohibition-era Virginia. It stars Tom Hardy, Guy Pearce, Gary Oldman and Shia LaBeouf, with an original score co-written by Cave with partner-in-crime and former Grinderman bandmate , The Dirty Three’s Warren Ellis. The film has already been dubbed a “wangster” – a mixture between a western and a gangster – much to the chagrin of its cast. But ...

  • News: Another List To Whinge About: Top 50 A ..
Where is The Dirty Skanks’ Nathan Cavaleri? That’s surely the question on everyone’s lips following Australian Guitar Magazine’s list of the Top 50 Aussie Guitarists. Topped by AC/DC’s Angus Young, the list includes many worthy (ie. M+N -approved) contenders such as Deniz Tek, Lobby Loyde, Adalita, Tim Rogers, Marty Willson-Piper, Mick Harvey, Spencer P Jones, Gareth Liddiard (pictured left, giving Dan Kelly an impromptu guitar lesson), Brad Shepherd, Kim Salmon, Ash Naylor, Tom Lyngcoln, Oren Ambarchi and, of course, the late Rowland S Howard, who recently had a custom pedal made in his honour ...

  • Black Moth - The Killing Jar
In recent times, the city of Leeds has been producing a clutch of bands, such as Pulled Apart by Horses, who crank their amps loud and play hard, leaving venues across the UK a shaking mess of blood, sweat and rattling teeth. The latest troupe to come from this newly emerging hard-rock hub are Black Moth , who this week drop their own stoner/desert rock inspired juggernaut The Killing Jar . As well as current geographical pedigree, the band have also drafted in Grinderman and Bad Seed member Jim Sclavunos on production duties to add further weight to their sonic barrage ...

  • News: Watch: Teenage Mothers Feat. Circle Pi ..
Hard to believe, but when they’re not at the centre of nang-huffing scandals or “shaming” agro bouncers on stage , Melbourne’s Teenage Mothers actually make music. And for their latest single, they’ve teamed up with none other than former child prodigy Jack Mannix from Circle Pit, who’s sparked some forum controversy of his own by simply opening his mouth . The track is called, ironically enough, ‘I Don't Wanna Play The Game’, and it’s an “intimate acoustic number” (complete with harmonica) that calls Bono a “motherfucker” and pokes fun at the industry. Its clip features live ...

The Flaming Lips The Flaming Lips And Heady Fwends Warner Bros. Records [2012] (Limited 2 LP Multi-Color Vinyl) (Record Store Day Exclusive) Fire Note Says: The Flaming Lips collaboration album not only was one of the best releases on Record Store Day but potentially is one of the better releases for the year! Album Review: At first it just seemed like another crazy Flaming Lips thing that was built on their earlier limited collaborative EP vinyl releases but Heady Fwends not only turned out some big names but pushes everyone's comfort zone here to the edge and makes for ...

  • Grinderman: "Grinderman 2 Rmx" (mini-review) ..
I'm torn about the demise of Nick Cave 's Grinderman project.  On the one hand I hope it means we'll get more Bad Seeds music.  On the other, I think we were treated to two albums that took us to a different extreme.  So it's nice to get to milk a bit more out of it with Grinderman 2 Rmx , a remix album of the second record. Anyone who bought the deluxe version of the original album has already heard the standout "Super Heathen Child", which features the legendary Robert Fripp. With that aside, the new standouts ...

  • 405 Record Store Day Preview: Brighton
Having only lived in Brighton a year, I literally missed last years Record Store Day here by just a handful of days much to my disappointment, especially having moved from a town that didn't even have an indie record store. So not only will this be my first experience of the day in Brighton, it'll also be the first time that I'm able to attend the event. Moving to a town cited the second most musical in the world according to SXSW, means that we're not short of stores to camp outside of on the day ...

  • Music: Music Review: Grinderman: Grinderman ..
There’s more than a little irony that Grinderman , a band that served as the wild and raw foil to the Bad Seeds’ sophistication, turned its songs over to be remixed. The act’s two albums were a testament to base desires—sex, mostly, with a hint of violence to keep listeners on their toes—and there are few places less primal than the cold deliberations of a producer’s mixing suite. The best moments on Grinderman 2 RMX come when the remixers force their will on the tracks rather than playing second fiddle to the band. A Place To ...

  • Nick Cave at a Really Weird Dance Party
Grinderman is dead, long live the Grinderman remixes. The band that was pretty much just the Bad Seeds are no more, but their surprisingly great remix album with artists like Unkle, Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Joshua Homme of bands like Queens of the Stoneage, is close to being alive. The nine-song [...]
