  • Mark Lanegan - Blues Funeral (2012)
Mark Lanegan has been keeping himself busy over the last few years. He's released albums with Isobel Campbell, The Gutter Twins, Soulsavers, Queens Of The Stone Age, and even his old group Screaming Trees. With all of that going on, his own work got shunted to the side. Well, no longer. Lanegan has returned with Blues Funeral, the new album from Mark Lanegan Band. This is a bit of a tweener album for Lanegan. The songs don't form a cohesive whole. In fact, it sounds as though this is a collection of misfit tracks that didn't fit ...

On his latest record Blues Funeral singer-songwriter Mark Lanegan offers gritty dark songwriting that feasts on life's bitterness In this 4AD session recorded on February 6th in NYC's Pull Studios and directed by Robert Semmer Lanegan takes the ominously lurching "Gravedigger's Song" into the intimate environment of the live series...

  • Watch The Mark Lanegan Band 4AD Session
Following the release of Blues Funeral back in February, Mark Lanegan Band have recorded four songs for the thirteenth installment in the 4AD Sessions series. Pull Studios in Manhattan's Hudson Square played understated host to a session that leans heavily on Mark's indelible voice and undeniable presence, as well as the intensity and precision of his band. Filmed during a break in rehearsals for a New York City show that was to herald the release of the album, the session captures a band fully sharpened and itching to hit the road (US dates begin May 10 and are ...

  • The Mark Lanegan Band - Blues Funeral
4AD | 2012 | Album Reviewed By: Meredith Webb Review Date: 4/9/2012 Rating (out of 10): 3 - Gathering dust. Blues Funeral is the latest album to hit the airwaves from the Mark Lanegan Band. His seventh release, and first release of new material in eight years, it would make you think he couldn’t go wrong. But alas, you’d be wrong. Unlike its title suggests, it lacks any semblance of what is generally considered blues, unless the actual death of blues is what he was going for (hence the funeral). Lanegan’s deep, sultry, smoky vocals are the only ...

Helluva lot happening in life right now. Moving places, checking in at LA's hipstertown soon, namely Silver Lake, and next weekend takes me to the quite amazing hills of Mammoth, going to snowboard my buttocks off! So a "moving houses" mixtape, a mixtape for the slopes and the mix for a trip. Juicy mix indeed, a lot of rather good music out there at the moment, hope I managed to condense the cream of the crop in here. For instance the new Daniel Rossen EP is gaining genuine affection on my behalf, nothing really fresh-new-under-the-sun kind of thing, simply ...

  • Mark Lanegan Band - Live At The Cockpit, Lee ..
The imposing man in black who sidles up to the microphone should really be brown bread. Anyone familiar with Mark Lanegan’s journey through the decades, forging his distinctive alternate rock music, may well be surprised he’s made it to 47 years of age. Having been embroiled in drug use from an early age, the Washington native swerved a prison sentence by completing a year in rehab at just 21 years old. It was here Lanegan met the Connor brothers, with whom he later formed grunge rock group, Screaming Trees. The band produced seven albums and was critically applauded ...

Tattooed hand grasping the microphone, Mark Lanegan lets loose on this highlight from his new album “Blues Funeral”, his first solo effort since 2004. It’s a dark, menacing, bluesy excursion led by his unmistakable voice. The entire set is slightly sinister and full of haunting imagery — not for the faint of heart. Whether you’re a fan from his work with Queens of the Stone Age, Screaming Trees, Twilight Singers">The Twilight Singers and Soulsavers or his solo albums, this session is one to watch. • Video: Mark Lanegan: “The Gravedigger’s Song ..
It isn’t hard to imagine this new doom-drenched Mark Lanegan single scoring a horror film — as it did in director Alistair Legrand’s official video — but the thought of Lanegan and Co. bringing a mood seemingly summoned from the bowels of hell to KCRW’s well-lit radio studio felt like a stretch. • Mark Lanegan Band - The Gravedigger’s Song I ..
Mark Lanegan Band - The Gravedigger’s Song I never really got Queens of the Stone Age. A ton of my music-y friends love them and went crazy when they played SXSW last year, but I couldn’t get into it. Former frontman Mark Lanegan just released a new solo album called Blues Funeral , which I like more. Jack Irons (of RHCP, Eleven and PJ fame) plays drums while Greg Dulli and Josh Homme guest. Lanegan’s voice is trademark, but the instrumentation shows more range here than in past projects. This is the opening track.

  • Mark Lanegan - The Gravedigger's Song
Mark Lanegan, formerly of the Screaming Trees and Queens of the Stone Age is in danger of becoming a classic performer. No, that doesn't sound right. We're the ones in danger. We're not supposed to like this sort of stuff. Here's this gravel-throated guy who sounds like he's singing from the barstool he hasn't left in years giving it chorus and verse. The Gravedigger's Song is taken from his brand new album Blues Funeral , and it is full of delicious menace. Take it from someone who wanted to dislike it, this is a ...
