  • Manchester Orchestra // The 405 Interview ..
“I don’t know if Manchester Orchestra’s going to be the be all and end all for all of us,” Andy Hull ponders. “But as long as we continue to write records that we know are substantially better than the last record we made, then we’re gonna keep making records.” After two critically acclaimed, yet unfathomably underappreciated albums Manchester Orchestra are still reaching for the mainstream recognition that they deserve, and after a six-month wait to get the record released, it’s clear that the band are keen to get their latest body of work – and with it ...

  • She once belonged to us
For Sale: Baby shoes, never worn. -Ernest Hemingway In the 1920s, Ernest Hemingway’s friends and colleagues bet him that he couldn’t write a COMPLETE story in just six words. As you can read above, they had to pay up. Hemingway considers it his best work. I'm sure that this isn't what the song "Baby Shoes" by the group Bad Books is about... but maybe you could be persuaded? Click to play Bad Books - Baby Shoes Bad Books is a band/project that joined friends singer/songwriter Kevin Devine with Andy Hull and his band Manchester Orchestra ...

  • The Gasoline That I've Been Drinkin' Like It ..
He's quite a talented young guy, this Robert McDowell. He has been the lead guitarist for the band Manchester Orchestra since 2005, and this year released his solo project called Gobotron. I remember when the kid started his own MySpace page with this same name in '08, and I wondered for a little while. But he didn't tell anyone about it until he finished the album. So of course Jeremiah Edmond, whom up until recently was the amazing drummer for Manchester Orchestra but gave that up in order to stay in one place with his wife and run ...

  • Best New Releases of the Week: Bear Hands, L ..
This week's new releases include the fresh songs, as well as some tracks that have already made the rounds and are now being repackaged and re-issued in various forms. For example, Brooklyn's popular, but still unsigned, band Bear Hands, have re-issued their single, "What a Drag," today on white vinyl, and will celebrate this evening at The Studio at Webster Hall in New York, a kick-off show for an extensive tour of the U.S. with We Were Promised Jetpacks and Passion Pit. The band's shows with Passion Pit have already sold out in cities like Chicago ...

  • Ten Tracks You Need #56 Monday Edition
Happy Monday folks. While normally Mondays are pretty sucky, starting it off with Ten Tracks You Need should help soften the blow. Two TTYN's in three days...you can't beat that. This would have been up yesterday but due to sports overload it just didn't happen. Despite not having American football to watch, there's been alot of sports on TV. The Olympics, NBA Allstar Game, Premier League, and The Daytona 500 all were this weekend. Wow. There was barely enough time to watch it all and most of it was pretty entertaining. Even the ending of ...

  • Music Blog-o-cide of 2k10
Been on Twitter all day about the great "Music Blog-o-cide of 2k10." Big music review/ mp3 site Pop Tarts Suck Toasted was unceremoniously ousted off Blogger yesterday for reasons not completely clear yet but is now back up and running . I Rock Cleveland posted on a Blogger forum that all of their music was licensed. I was thinking of doing an MP3 post today, Blogger be damned! (Okay, I already downloaded an XML backup file....) Small Black: "Despicable Dogs" (good song) Glimr: "Sunburned at Midnight" Blue Brain: "Ten by Ten" Linfinity: "MSG" Southerly: "Trials" A Weather: "Giant Stairs" Borrowed Eyes ...

  • From the mailbox...
Not going to waste much time on typing words today. Instead it's my intention to share the best stuff found in the mailbox (and some of it is indeed really great), so be prepared for music galore! However I cannot help adding that (as always) I'm amazed by the number of truly horrible songs and acts being promoted, making it quite a rollercoaster ride checking mails. Luckily (though quite unusual) today’s ride has had significantly more highs than lows. + The Soft Province - One Was A Lie + Phantogram - When I'm Small + The Secret History - Johnny Anorak + Gobotron ...
