  • Video: LINCE - "Sombras en mi corazón" [LINC ..
Yet another artist among the handful of Iberoamericans who’ve found Germany as the adequate place to develop their music and find a receptive audience, Madrid-born LINCE has been working as a DJ in Berlin since 2009, while also making encompassing ambient and minimal techno. The video for the rework of his track "Sombras en mi corazón," a gorgeously crafted recollection of images edited by Machines Désirantes Buró and taken from the film The Endless Summer , uses the idea of moving water in the form of ocean waves as a consistent theme and aesthetic for his repetitive, vaguely melodious and ...

  • Music Review: Christian Fennesz & Ryuichi Sa ..
Christian Fennesz & Ryuichi Sakamoto Flumina [Touch; 2011] by James Parker Rating: Flumina is the third collaboration between Christian Fennesz and Ryuichi Sakomoto. And it’s much more in the vein of 2007’s Cendre than their live outing from a few years before that, Sala Santa Cecilia . Where Sala Santa Cecilia was a lush and noisy record, constantly shifting between dense electronic clatter and distorted quiet, Flumina is overtly ambient: a subtle dialogue between Sakomoto’s artful piano meanderings and Fennesz’s atmospheric fuzz. In fact, Flumina is a ‘concept’ or ‘process’ record in two senses. First, because each of the 24 tracks is ...

  • * * * * * Aquarelle – Sung in Broken Symmetr ..
[ Dusted Magazine ] ~ Blame Fennesz. Like it or not, his interpretation of the guitar instrumental as simmering pop elegy has held sway for almost the better part of a decade. The grainy melodicism of Endless Summer and, and to a lesser extent, Venice exert such a gravitational pull on listeners that their presence [...]

  • Field Day 2012 Line Up Additions
Field Day have confirmed a raft of new additions including Modeselektor, Liars and more. Held in Victoria Park, Field Day is one of London's most prominent one day events. A cross-section of indie, electronics and more the event regularly pulls in exclusive performances from seminal acts. 2012 looks to be no exception. In a bulletin this morning Field Day organisers confirmed appearances from German bass munchers Modeselektor, experimental American types Liars and more. Having dominated 2011, Blawan opens the New Year by confirming his involvement with Field Day . Elsewhere, Dev Hynes returns to London under his Blood Orange guise ...

  • Fennesz Modern Dance Score (MP3)
The first Touch Radio free download of the year is nothing less than a Fennesz performance for modern dance. The work is “On Invisible Pause,” choreographed by Christopher Arouni, and it was part of Skånes Dansteater’s performance HAZE on November 4, 2011, in Malmö, Sweden. The piece is lengthy and rangy, encompassing vast stretches of [...]

  • Black Vase: 2011 Edition
When Oliver tweeted asking if anyone would like to write about ‘out there’ sounds, I thought, ‘yeah, why not. I like a bit of that.’ But what exactly is ‘that’? By proxy it’s usually a fool’s game to try and categorise, but for the sake of simplicity, lets just say we’re talking about music that pushes boundaries to the extreme. Now, pop music often pushes boundaries (usually those of taste…) but rarely does it cause you to question your own perception of what music actually is. I remember hearing Whitehouse’s ‘Why You Never Became A Dancer ...

by Bill Meyer It's not exactly news nowadays when folks collaborate over email; it's more remarkable when someone springs for the airfare required to get musicians from different continents playing in the same room. After Monday's first instalment , a further 50 exceptional artists/releases to complete  LMYE's 2011 Festive 50 + 50. Not, of course, that our centurions' were the year's only worthwhile sounds - we're intensely conscious (particularly after relishing others' deeply-felt - & very different - lists, notably Anti-Gravity Bunny 's, Gacougnal 's, The Liminal 's (& its contributors'), The Milk Factory 's, Suborno 's,  Fluid Radio 's & 5:4 's) of how much more thrilling music 2011 had to offer & how partial even our expanded selection must inevitably be. Still, as with our earlier batch , each of these artists/releases resonated greatly with one or both of us over the year. Some will with you too, hopefully... • Under The Influence // Benjamin Shaw
After a 405 Focus piece, and his incredible 'Fill Me In' feature, we thought it would be good to lock in Benjamin Shaw for an 'Under The Influence' piece too. So that just leaves a guest mix, artist picks and disposable 405 article, before this site becomes the unofficial second home for Mr Shaw. In the Fishtank – Sparklehorse & Fennesz I have long been a devotee of both Sparklehorse & Fennesz, so to find out they had worked together on this was a delightful surprise. Almost all instrumental, it combines the electronic guitar glitches of Fennesz and Mark Linkous' creepy atmospherics wonderfully ...

“A curious mix of chaos and chilling atmospheres, Cadu T.’s Sobre a Maquina relies on trippy beats and meticulous, beautifully crafted timbres, bringing together minimalistic melodies and the complex, worn-out, “urban” sounds of the big city. Influenced by bands and artists like Throbbing Gristle, SPK, Tim Hecker, Fennesz and Can, the trio first got together [...]
