News: Does Music Have A Place At The Footy? ..Ever since that fateful day in 1991 when Angry Anderson drove out onto Waverley Park in a blue Batmobile, the question of whether music has a place on the AFL football field has been posed again and again. News: Gotye Vs Kimbra Vs Beards In APRA Show ..The first Australian single to go #1 in the US in 10 years will go head to head with a joke song about having sex with a bearded man. And that’s not the strangest thing to come out of the APRA Music Award nominations, which were announced today (May 2). Such is the dire state of local dance music (apparently) that a song by French DJ David Guetta featuring Adelaide-born, US-based singer Sia is somehow vying for Australian Dance Work of the Year. News: Dylan Tribute Shows AnnouncedThe “Bob Dylan tribute” buried in last week’s Splendour In The Grass announcement certainly provoked a strong reaction from the M+N community. “OH MY GOD,” exclaimed forum user mrmagoo, while another claimed it made them “puke” (with excitement, we presume). Now, we can finally reveal that it’ll be more than just a one-off show. In the vein of The Beatles’ White Album concert and the aborted Nirvana tribute shows , the Bob Dylan 50th anniversary concert will be making its way to a theatre near you (if you live in Brisbane, Melbourne, or Sydney that is). News: Dirty Three, Jack White, ATDI For Sple ..This year’s Splendour In The Grass line-up has been revealed in full. It includes Lana Del Rey, Jack White, Smashing Pumpkins, a reformed Afghan Whigs, as well as Bloc Party and At The Drive-In in their only Australian appearances. The Dirty Three, who recently played a round of theatre shows in support of new album Towards The Low Sun (read a review of two of them here ), are also confirmed, while Tame Impala, Kimbra, Hoods">Hilltop Hoods, Lanie Lane, Wolfmother, Seekae, Bleeding Knees Club, Big Scary and DZ Deathrays round out a sizeable local contingent. News: Hillsong, Joke Band In Line For APRA ‘ ..Gotye’s ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ will win APRA’s “Song of the Year”, but let’s not forget the 29 other also-rans vying for the title. They include Hillsong Live, the “global expression of praise and worship from Hillsong Church”; inexplicably popular, one-dimensional joke band The Beards (pictured); ex- Idol contestants Guy Sebastian and Matt Corby; and Australian Music Prize winners The Jezabels. News: Listen: Cat Empire Member's Ye Olde AF ..OK, so it’s no It’s A Draw by Sidewiner’s Nick Craft, but at least the theme song for AFL expansion team Greater Western Sydney (GSW) doesn’t sound like ‘Freo Heave Ho’, the diabolically contemporary theme song for the Dockers. News: Triple J Reveals ‘Second’ Hottest 100 ..In the lead-up to triple j’s Hottest 100 countdown on Australia Day, eventual list topper Gotye revealed how he’d like to see Godley & Creme-inspired album track ‘State of The Art’ make the cut. Jezabels big say JoeThe Jezabels are likely to make “serious waves” on the international scene, at least according to Eskimo Joe. Guitarist Stuart MacLeod took to his blog after watching The Jezabels at the Caloundra Music Festival recently, saying he believes the Sydney-based band have a shot at cracking the overseas market. “It was the first time we’ve had the pleasure of seeing The Jezabels play live, and they didn’t disappoint,” he said.
