Echo & The Bunnymen

England

Echo & the Bunnymen are an English post-punk group, formed in Liverpool in 1978. Their original lineup consisted of vocalist Ian McCulloch, guitarist Will Sergeant and bass player Les Pattinson, supplemented by a drum machine. By 1980, Pete de Freitas had joined as the band's drum... Read More

  • Cleared - Breaking Day
by Bill Meyer There's a hell of a lot of history in Cleared's music. When you hear Steven Hess's uncluttered drumbeats looming over Michael Vallera's churning guitar, the instrumental passages of Joy Division and early Echo & The Bunnymen records come to mind. When they shift from one stark groove to another... Read More

  • Song of the day: "Golden Sea" by French Film ..
My friend Joel recommended this Finnish band. It reminds me of the heady days of Post Punk (Echo and the Bunnymen, Josef K, etc.). For you youngsters out there, Franz Ferdinand or the Drums are useful touchstones (post-Post Punk, if you will). Add another pushpin to your musical map with these fine Finns.

    1. Madonna's Halftime Show Whether you loved it or hated it, Madge's extravaganza — complete with M.I.A.'s flip-off — was pure entertainment spectacle. 2. The Darkness Believe in a Thing Called Samsung With a new album finally on the way, the Darkness surely consider this Samsung commercial, which featured a unitard-clad Justin Hawkins blasting out "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" as a high-profile step in a long-awaited comeback. 4. • Super Bowl Commercials: The Best Music From ..
Filed under: The Hit List , Television YouTube This year's crop of Super Bowl commercials was pretty crappy, but we do have to hand it to the people who picked the tunes. Echo and the Bunnymen , James Brown , Ray Charles , Kanye West , Fun , the Animals ? That's a hell of playlist right there. Now that our food coma has worn off, we went ahead and picked our favorite commercials of the evening, based on the musical choices alone. What were your favorites? I mean, as if kids aren't annoying enough without being infinitely more talented than you. Little bastards. More on that in a sec... ... but today we start with Marlon Brando's favorite band, The Horrors . GET IT?!?! I KILL ME! But seriously, folks, these guys kinda have a bit of an Echo & The Bunnymen thing going on (shocking) which is sometimes better than others. I do quite like one of their tunes, and you kind find that on the Facebook page ... Also, we have M. Ward , who's just as "meh" as ever. It's called consistency, people... something ...

  • ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN – Le Bataclan (19 janvie ..

• Echo and The Bunnymen – Leamington Spa 17/01 ..
Opening the proceedings in the gorgeous Leamington Assembly were local duo Coves . Stepping out onto a fog laden stage the band played some pre-recorded backing music which, in time, they began to perform on top of. Initially this was immensely unimpressive. Bands adding some pre-recorded sound to their set is acceptable as it can be difficult for smaller groups to pay and find musicians to help them. However Coves seemed to be actually performing very little and it was doubly annoying that singer Beck Woods, initially, struggled to perform to any reasonable standard. I warmed to the band as their ...

  • Whiteout – Bite It
The post from two weeks ago made me think about the Joiners and all the gigs I went to. Probably the most famous gig that I never went to was the Whiteout and Oasis double headliner. Back in 1994, I had become dissatisfied with the music scene with limited interest in grunge and britpop. I looked backward towards Spacemen 3 and Echo and the Bunnymen instead. My friends told me at the time Whiteout were much better on the evening than Oasis. I would have to take their word on this, as I was not there. Whiteout were from Greenock ...
