  • Imagine No Religion
Great Pagans From: Brighton, United Kingdom Great Pagans' Teenage Silhouettes starts all laid back and introspective, like one of their former incarnation Duke Raoul's better moment, before exploding into something approaching rock and then crawling back into it's shell. Intriguing and rather enjoyable. Go Try Teenage Silhouettes by Great Pagans Go Visit Great Pagans - Facebook

  • Duke Raoul - Young Starlings [EP]
“Holy Jesus. What are these goddamn animals?” Well, they are Duke Raoul , presumably named after the Hunter S. Thompson drug munching character in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and other works. Part of Brighton's Prime Cut Music and Anti Ghost Moon Ray families, the four-piece band have a neat cover of the late Gerry Rafferty's solo hit Baker Street plus Esben and the Witch and Erland and the Carnival support credits to their name and now, a shiny new EP. The four tracks which make up the fifteen minute long Young Starlings recording have just enough in ...

  • The 405 Gig Guide // (11th - 17th July 2011) ..
Duke Raoul  // 14th July 2011 Launching their debut EP, Brighton’s own Duke Raoul showcase their twing-pronged sound of ethereal electronic dreaminess and smartly-constructed rock, unafraid to shy away from a catchy chorus. Big things are expected yadda yadda yadda, but forget all that: This is rock with a brain which knows its way around a melody. And if that wasn’t enough, it’s all taking place at Brighton’s newest, not-pay-a-penny venue, Green Door Store, and is followed by the stellar cock-rock night, Paradise City. Get involved. • Welcome // The New 405 Website
Hello, Welcome to the new 405 website! A lot of love/time/hardworking has gone into making this website, and none of it would have been possible without the very talented Pandr team (Rob Barwell and Peter Roome). We've said it on numerous occasions before, but we really wouldn't be where we are right now if it wasn't for their help. So a huge thank you goes out to them. Secondly we wanted to take this time to properly thank the people that have made the last 3 years so much fun. We didn't get a ...

  • I Wanna Sax You Up
I was sad to hear about the death of Gerry Rafferty (RIP Gerry) last week. Gerry's 'Baker Street' is one of those songs that sounds like nothing else it was an original and it still gives me chills down my spine when I hear that sax solo. I was pleased therefore when Brighton's Duke Raoul (who were first featured on the Devil's blog in June last year, The Duke Spirit ) sent me a copy of their cover of 'Baker Street' a perfectly poignant, downbeat tribute to the great man. Go Try Baker Street (Gerry Rafferty cover) by ...

  • Cloud Corner // January 14th 2011
Cloud Corner is back! It's a feature that has gone through many shifts over the last year or so, but we're finally happy with the format and we hope you will be too. The point of the feature is to look at the best tracks sent into our Soundcloud account and we plan on doing so every two weeks. Not only that but we're adding a voting element to the feature. It's quite simple, listen to all of the songs we present you with and then vote on your favourite. We'll then interview the winner ...

  • The Duke Spirit
Duke Raoul From: Brighton, United Kingdom If you look between the cracks of the music business off the A&R;'s usual well trodden paths you'll find some interesting, exciting young bands getting on with the business of creating great music far from the prying eyes on the voracious industry vultures. One such band are Duke Raoul, who I am assuming are named after the antihero in Hunter S Thompson's autobiographical novel Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. The Brighton quartet eschew trends and focus their efforts on producing interesting tracks like 'Break Up Your Routine' which sounds like ...

  • The 405 Birthday Message
Hello, So today The 405 celebrates its second birthday and I thought it would be a good opportunity to say a few words. Tonight we'll be celebrating our second year of life by throwing a massive party at Pure Groove. At some point tonight people will probably look to me to give some sort of speech and due to the fact that I hate spotlights being turned on me, I'll probably chicken out. So if you attend tonight and that is the case, please refer to this post. Everything that comes along with this website is exhausting, especially ...

Thompson’s infamous anti-hero and hailing from Brighton Duke Raoul release their debut single – a double a-side of ‘Strange’ and ‘Dead Echoes’, out on vinyl and download. Already favourites of The 405, the first thing we should mention is the awesome artwork on the release (check it out there above) courtesy of Sarai Vardi. Having amassed an impressive slew of supports to the likes of The Futureheads, We Were Promised Jetpacks and Esben and the Witch, it comes as no surprise the band’s sound is ...
