  • Explosions in the Sky announce last leg of U ..
“Explosions in the Sky” — simply the name of a band, or a not-so-subtle indication of the Austin quartet’s penchant for (as yet, unachieved) airborne terrorism? I think I recall seeing them live for the first time prior to the release of All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone ( TMT Review ). Obviously, given the epic (I hate using that word, by the way, but it’s fitting) nature of their previous albums, and given the fact that their following was but a fraction of what it is now, I expected an experience to remember. And it was. But now they ...

  • Wale Freestyles on Tim Westwood’s Show
Wale dropped a freestyle during his recent visit to Tim Westwood’s show on BBC Radio 1Xtra. The Maybach Music rapper closed his eyes and got in the zone as he rhymed over Lil Wayne’s “She Will” instrumental. “LeBron number 9s, I ain’t tryna floss, but guarantee all my women got designer drawers,” he rapped. Hear [...]

  • Vince Vaughn To Lead Universal's Big Screen ..
While Sony is celebrating the success of "21 Jump Street" and the rest of Hollywood dusts off various TV reboots they've had sitting in drawers, for Vince Vaughn, he's been there and done that already. In 2004 he teamed with Owen Wilson and director Todd Phillips for "Starsky & Hutch" carrying the film to over $170 million worldwide, which is not a bad chunk of change at all. And it looks like Universal are hoping the actor can work the same magic on a property they have been developing. Deadline reports that Vaughn will produce and take the lead ...

  • MALPRACTICE Enters the Studio
Finnish prog metal band Malpractice returns from a lengthy break and begins the recordings of their fourth album in April at Astia-Studios, Lappeenranta, Finland. The deal with Spinefarm-Universal ended in early 2011 and even then the band had over an album's worth of material in their drawers. "We decided not to just sit on this gem we have written. This kind of an album totally deserves to be released", states band's leader Joonas Koto.

  • JAMIE FOXX DOUGIES IN DRAWERS!
#Ahh…? Turns out all Jamie Foxx needs to impersonate Michael Jackson is a pair of sneakers, a baseball cap, and a fetching red thong. What’s wrong with this video? That’s actually Prince playing in the background (“I Wanna Be Your Lover”), not Michael Jackson. Also, the lighting and production quality could be better. And Jamie [...]

  • Use Your CD Racks to Organize Your Tupperwar ..
Another option: organizing the slimmer volumes of your modern poetry collection. From The Kitchn (via Lifehacker ): No matter what kind of food storage containers you have — they always come with lids. When assembling lunches for the road or leftovers for the fridge, no one wants to dig through drawers to find the matching piece. Try this simple arrangement that puts to use a basic storage unit usually found holding your home media. Read and comment. From thedailyswarm.com.

  • Rick Berlin's trip to see the Degas Nudes ..
From the Mailbag The World of Music & Art So, here's the deal. I can't begin to listen to, digest or publish everything we receive. About once a week in 2012, I will be randomly opening new mail and so long as the stuff is potentially of interest to our music-crazed audiences, we'll publish it. This week, we share the public thoughts of Boston's pre-eminent creative black sheep singer-songwriter Rick Berlin . Berlin took in the Degas Nudes exhibit before it ended at the MFA Boston earlier this month. His thoughts, more poetic reflection really, were published this ...

  • See Erykah Badu and Mark Ronson Take 'Letter ..
No members of the Doors were exhumed for this sweaty jazz-soul celebration. Ronson">Mark Ronson's team-up with Erykah Badu, New Orleans funk legend Zigaboo Modeliste, and members of the Dap-Kings last night on Late Night With David Letterman came about as part of the same documentary that brought you Skrillex teaming up with Jim Morrison's former backing band for the deplorable "Breakin' a Sweat." But the quality of this performance of their "A La Modeliste" (via Yardie ) is on a whole other planet. Modeliste, the founding drummer for the hugely influential NoLa band the Meters, rules the stage ...

  • Now It's All About The Super Deluxe Box Set. ..
Guardian UK : You could, if you so desired, detect a slight tone of surprise when Pete Townshend says, about the latest reissue of his 1973 rock opera Quadrophenia : “The record company and book publishers are still paying me good money to pick through my own underwear drawers and find unworn socks.” Perhaps that’s because, as Townshend reminds you, he’s 66: old enough to remember a time when rock’n’roll was widely thought of as a passing fad, not something that was going to be extensively curated in the next century. Then again, you don’t have to ...

  • Lost and Found
Rich Robinson--"Lost and Found" (mp3) I am sitting in my basement with my Ipod on shuffle, listening to a mix of 431 Christmas songs, a full 24 hours of Christmas tunes, if I so desired. The problem is that it isn't my current Ipod, or even the one I owned before that. It's a cast-off Ipod that one of my daughters bequeathed me when she opened a perfectly-packaged new Ipod three or four years ago. The other problem is that the Ipod in question's screen is a Rorschach blot in the shape of an oak leaf ...

  • Eleanor Friedberger – Last Summer
When I first saw the brother and sister team of Eleanor and Matthew Friedberger play a show as the Fiery Furnaces eight years ago, I was so impressed that I said on the way home "I have a new favourite band." That was around the time of their debut album Gallowsbird's Bark and I followed their output ever since, through a prolific and challenging set of releases that managed to alternate between thrilling me and trying my patience. For instance, their fourth album Rehearsing My Choir features spoken word narration from their grandmother and a lot of the Bitter ...
