Doves

England

Andy Williams (born Andrew Sebastian Williams , 18 February 1970) is the drummer and vocalist of Doves . [ 1 ] He was born in Manchester, England , and he is also the twin brother of bandmate Jez . Before their incarnation as Doves, the three members were a dance-club music trio call... Read More

  • Diamond Doves – “Eat Your Heart Out”
Diamond Doves high-step over the line between forward thinking indie and ear-pleasing Beatlesian pop.  Perhaps better known as the magic makers behind the band Dearland (sans frontman Elvis Perkins), this trio has [...]

  • New Year’s Eve Concert Guide: NYE 2011 – 201 ..
[ Last Update : December 9] “I hate New Year’s Eve, it’s always so anticlimactic.” – Friends of yours that don’t see live music every year. Perhaps you’ve already got a show picked out for New Year’s Eve 2011-2012. Maybe you lucked out and it’s local or maybe you’re traveling 3,000 miles or even crossing an ocean to get there. Regardless of the status of your plans, it’s always fun to know what else is going on at that exact moment all over the country. [Photo of Umphrey's McGee NYE 2010-2011 by Chad ...

  • The Black String Theory - "This Clouded View ..
Los Angeles-based indie/alt-rock duo, The Black String Theory, recently released their new single "This Clouded View". Epic in every sense of the word, this song delivers arena-sized and emotion-driven, alternative/indie-rock with a compelling sense of urgency. Produced and mixed by the band and Mastered by Miles Showell (Dido, Doves, Portishead, Travis, The Verve) at Metropolis Mastering in London, UK, the single was made available via iTunes, Amazon, eMusic, Napster and Spotify on May 13, 2011.

  • Greensky Bluegrass Totally Bitchin’ ’80s Par ..
Our appreciation for Michigan natives and the latest in a growing class of HT faves, Greensky Bluegrass , continues to grow. Last night at the Fox in Boulder, Greensky threw down an ’80s themed Halloween show that featured a slew of covers from the Reagan Era. Among the choice tunes given a bluegrass spin by the band were The Theme to Ghostbusters, When Doves Cry, Who Can It Be Now? and Thriller. They even tackled Sharp Dressed Man by ZZ Top and Bruce Springsteen’s Atlantic City over the course of two lengthy sets. This “Totally Bitchin’ ’80s Party” didn’t ...

  • Download: Urusen - A Once Was Tramp And Tree ..
Words: Saam Das Folk has made a big comeback in the last few years with new artists such as Mumford & Sons , Laura Marling and Noah & The Whale each firmly establishing themselves in the mainstream. Perhaps London-based Urusen will follow in their footsteps. Download their recent double A-side single below for free. Urusen have been going (somewhat under the radar) for many years now but lately things have been hotting up. The band have been working with Steve Osborn , who has produced the likes of Suede , Doves and New Order as well as being personally handpicked by Peter Gabriel for... some ...

Our friend Nick Irving went to see Rubblebucket at Brooklyn Bowl last Friday night and got some amazing shots from the band while they rocked the first of two shows that night. Openers Diamond Doves and Janka Nabay and the Bubu Gang got things started that night.

  • The Kill Van Kulls
"Lost and Found" from the single Lost and Found 2011 iTunes When you think of finely tuned guitar-pop, Stockport, UK is not what necessarily comes to mind as a breeding ground for the next big thing. Indie rockers The Kill Van Kulls (now Manchester-based) have only been together for less than 1 year and have already garnered attention from the likes of XFM and BBC. What started out as a three-piece plus a drum machine has evolved into a more robust and lush sounding quartet that's reminiscent of The Doves, The Cure, Simple Minds, and pretty much any John ...

  • All Good Diary: Saturday FestivalLog + New A ..
I made a point of getting up early on Saturday morning of the 15th Annual All Good Music Festival to catch some of the local talent at the Grassroots Stage. Having been told by numerous local media sources that they were a hot ticket, I made a point of seeing a bit of Fletcher’s Grove from nearby Morgantown. As usual, I was not as quick making the trek as I’d hoped and arrived about halfway through the fledgling jamband’s first set, just as they were finishing a very strong cover of Buddy Holly’s classic Not Fade ...

  • Beady Eye To Launch Manchester City Top
Liam Gallagher fronted Beady Eye are set to launch the new home top for Manchester City. For years the perennial underdog, Manchester City became the cool team for musicians in the city to support. Amongst their celebrity fans are Johnny Marr, Doves and of course the Gallagher brothers. Oasis played a historic show at Maine Road, before venturing down to the club's new home at the City of Manchester stadium. Liam Gallagher is now fronting Beady Eye , but has not left his passion for the club behind. Beady Eye have been chosen to launch the new Manchester City home ...

  • Video of the Moment #500: Doves
Hitting video #500 at TGTF is a pretty big deal. I felt it only appropriate to post a Doves video for the momentous occasion. (You know why, yes?) But the band haven’t put out a new album since ‘Kingdom of Rust’, and I didn’t want to pull out just any video. Handily, the band’s official YouTube channel had a ‘Album Mega Mix’ in their video collection: basically a greatest hits of their videos. And what... Continue reading Video of the Moment #500: Doves

  • Marc’s Musings: 13 Best Musical Moments From ..
These are in no particular order of ranking. This is purely in the order that I witnessed them. And in most cases WITNESSED is the perfect word. [All photos by Marc Millman ] 1) Dave Malone sitting in with Tommy Malone & The Mystik Drones @ the New Orleans Convention Center (7th Annual Threadhead party – Mardi Gras World, May 3) Monday through Wednesday are the three “off days” between the two weekends of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. They are referred to as the “Daze Between.” For the last seven years, the Threadheads have thrown a party to help support local musicians (this is what the group does in addition to being all things Jazz Fest). I was shoveling plate after plate of free crawfish into my face mere hours after landing in the Big Easy while Tommy and his band were playing. The music was great background music. I had seen Dave and Tommy standing around earlier. But when Tommy announced Dave was joining them, I grabbed my gear and ran to the front and I’m glad I did. They did two songs together. I don’t know the names of either, but the love you could see between the brothers and the passion they have for playing live music came through. And that’s what Fest is all about.  READ ON for more of Marc’s top Jazz Fest musical moments… Click here to view the embedded video. 2) Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band @ New Orleans Arena (May 3) I’m a Jersey boy. I grew up on the classic rock played on WNEW & WPLJ out of NYC and WDHA out of Morristown, NJ. And although we heard a lot of The Boss & Joel">Billy Joel in addition to the Stones, Beatles, The Who and Led Zep; Bob Seger was always in the mix. Then I went to the University of Michigan in Seger’s backyard and you couldn’t get through a day without hearing four or five Seger jams on the air. Seger played a two set, 25-song show that ran over two and a half hours. He basically played every hit, a couple of ...

The Hardest Working Man In Motion Brings It On Home Warren Haynes Band @  Beacon Theatre, May 13 Exactly one week after hosting a great “party” at the Mahalia Jackson Theatre in New Orleans, Warren Haynes returned to his adopted hometown and the stage that he has played more than any other artist in the long history of the Beacon Theatre.
