  • Silkie & Quest For Dubstep Allstars
Silkie & Quest are set to take charge of the next instalment of Tempa's 'Dubstep Allstars' mix series. One of the most influential names in bass culture, Tempa have helmed the Dubstep Allstars series for years now. Charting the evolution and progression of dubstep, the compilations act as a barometer for innovation at 140 BPM. Two pioneers, Silkie & Quest are ideal candidates to take hold of the next instalment in the series. 'Dubstep Allstars Vol. 9' belongs to them, with the duo calling in favours from some high ranking places. Dubstep may be splintering beyond any recognition, but Silkie & Quest prove that plenty of innovation still exists within the established templates. Opening with Swindle, the mix contains some exclusive material from Silkie & Quest's own hard drive. Alongside this, the pair manage to coax Digital Mystikz producer Mala into handing over the VIP cut of 'Eyez'. Speaking recently, Silkie said that the mix "came from a desire to emulate the music I loved - garage and 90s R&B;". Continuing, the producer admitted: "I feel a compulsion to add the jazz and the soul to the music, and find it harder to leave it out." 'Dubstep Allstars: Vol.09' is due to be released on July 23rd. Tracklisting: 01/ Swindle - Superhero 02/ Silkie - Lucky 03/ Quest - The Seafront 04/ Swindle - Belfast 05/ Silkie - Get Up and Dance 06/ Quest - Somewhere 07/ Quest - Deep Inside 08/ L Wiz - 4.42 oz 09/ Silkie - Selva Nova 10/ Silkie Vs. • Track Of The Day 12/4 - Submotion Orchestra ..
Dubstep was never really renowned for its soulful characteristics. Techno dread, for sure, but... soul? However a new breed of producers and musicians are taking bass weight and re-introducing something tender. Submotion Orchestra are sitting at the forefront, with the collective fusing a soulful edge with jazzy flourishes and plenty of heavy, heavy sub-bass electronics. New single 'It's Not Me, It's You' is a case in point. The collective's first step since debut album 'Finest Hour' the track will emerge on May 7th and finds Sunmotion Orchestra continually pushing forward. Hardened by 12 months on the road ...

  • Listen: First Taste Of Mala's Cuban Project ..
A first clip from Mala's upcoming Cuban project has emerged online - stream it below. Mala has a certain reputation. One half of Digital Mystikz, the producer is a rhythm man - continually evolving within the infinite universe of bass weight. So when news dropped that the producer was working on a Cuban album, it seemed like a natural fit. Taken out to the island by Gilles Peterson, Mala has been working with a number of Cuban musicians. Rinse FM host Chef played a clip from Mala's project recently, which bass journalist Joe Nice seems to think is called ‘Cuba ...

by Daniel Martin-McCormick Shackleton was the first dubstep that really clicked for me and a number of my friends. Burial was great but too clearly "dubstep for people who don't like dubstep," and The Bug was a little too old guard to really count. This was back in '06 '07, in California, when only a couple Digital Mystikz... Read More

  • Better Late Than Never
OK, so the fact that we officially closed this blog in 2010 serves as some excuse for not dropping by here to give an update on things sooner but this post is a little overdue so as I'm here now, I'll cover off a couple of bits at once. As mentioned previously, my main musical focus after quitting blogging was always intended to be making music of my own and last year finally saw the official release of some my music - hoorah! My debut EP , Beyond The Green Wall, came out as a digital release on Broken20 at ...
