UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

David Bazan (born January 1976) is an indie rock singer-songwriter from Seattle, Washington . Bazan (pronounced "buh-zahn") was the lead singer and creative force behind the now-defunct band Pedro the Lion and was the lead singer of Headphones , a band he formed out of his interest i... Read More

  • PropertyOfZack Playlist : : Koji, Kurt Travi ..
Koji, Kurt Travis, and Bearcat just recently finished up a full US tour with Never Shout Never. The tours over, but we’ve put all three artists together for a great new PropertyOfZack Playlist feature. Check out the Playlists and listen to the songs on Spotify while reading everyone’s thoughts! (Click on image to listen in Spotify) IT’S SPRING TIME. SOUTHERN MUSIC IS WHAT’S GOOD. First thing you should know, my favorite singer is—without a doubt—Otis Redding. “Dock of the Bay” is one of the first songs I ever heard, ever learned. Secondly, B.B ...

    httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v;=Hl7gehsIKZg#! There’s probably still stuff I’ve [...]

  • Albums That Changed My Life: Kevin Devine ..
This week's "Albums That Changed My Life" contributor is Kevin Devine! Kevin will be spending this summer on his first coast-to-coast solo tour since 2006, supporting mewithoutYou. Check out the full routing here . Guns N' Roses - Appetite For Destruction For the record, I was one of those 13 year olds who converted to indie rock via "Nevermind" and that was that, and furthermore I currently think Axl Rose is a sick, sad, massively uncool guy. That said, this album was MINE before any other music was. I was obsessed from first hearing "Sweet Child O' Mine" in my cousin ...

  • Father John Misty: Fear Fun
Father John Misty Fear Fun Sub Pop Records [2012]     Fire Note Says: Josh Tillman follows up his exit with the Foxes">Fleet Foxes with his excellent new project Father John Misty! Album Review: Father John Misty is the new band from ex-Foxes">Fleet Foxes drummer and solo singer/songwriter Josh Tillman. Fear Fun is his debut record under this moniker but Tillman has around seven solo records under his belt so he is an indie veteran that uses this new venture to spread his wings in a little different direction. Fear Fun shakes off Tillman's comparisons to his solo ...

  • PropertyOfZack Playlist : : La Dispute Wildl ..
La Dispute, Balance & Composure, Sainthood Reps, and All Get Out are currently out on the incredible Wildlife Tour. We’ve put three of the bands together for a great new PropertyOfZack Playlist feature. Check out the Playlists and listen to the songs on Spotify while reading everyone’s thoughts! (Click on image to listen in Spotify) For this playlist, I went through some records I really enjoy, and picked out 10 songs. Each of these songs on this playlist are in the same track numbered spot as the original records they appear on. Starting us off is classic record opener….. American Football - Never Meant This is one of my favorite opening tracks to any record, everything about this song makes me feel good, from the fantastic drum beat to the open tuned glassy guitars. Aces. The Police - So Lonely The Police are my favorite band, so they had to make the playlist. Sting and Stewart Copeland lock in like no other rhythm section, well I think maybe some Motown Records session players may have something to say about that, either way “So Lonely” is a classic. Balance And Composure - Quake I have to give some love to some pals on this playlist, its only right. If you haven’t heard B&C;, get out from the rock you are under because they are a special band. “Quake” is track #3 on 2011’s top - of - everyone’s - best - of - list “Separation”. The tune starts off with some dreamy guitars, then swiftly gets gnarly and only continues to tear at Jon’s vocal chords as the song progresses. See them this Spring on The Wildlife tour!! Pavement - Cut Your Hair 90’s icons Pavement put out a great record in 1994 “Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain”. “Cut Your Hair” I believe was the lead single off the record. Malkmus’s vocals ...

  • Damien Jurado Covers: Springsteen, Nick Drak ..
Seattle indie singer-songwriter Damien Jurado is an experimentalist at heart, a literate musician who built his career on a cult following, early collaborative work as an indie rock band member with high school compatriot David Bazan, and a set of early self-released, cassette-only lo-fi experimental recordings featuring found sounds, neo-punk sensibilities, and carefully constructed, heartbreakingly [...]

  • Announcing: David Bazan house concert, June ..
Last time Dave Bazan (formerly of Pedro the Lion) came and played a house show for me, it was a piercing, thoughtful, riveting evening. I compared it to my very first house show I saw with Joe Pug, and how the intimacy was borderline overwhelming. I wrote: “I still feel this way about house shows, [...]

  • Throwback Tuesdays (Week 13)
Apparently, Bonnaroo wasn’t the only one having trouble with their site this week! Please excuse our tardiness on this weeks Throwback Tuesday …. At any rate, pushing back David Bazan (formerly of Pedro The Lion ) to next weeks installment would be robbing you all of the honesty this man offers through his music, especially on “Hard To Be” off of Curse Your Brances (2009); so better late than never. At 6:24 in length, especially considering that this is his debut as a solo artist, we feel this song is a bold selection to open the album, not only in ...

  • [Future Faves?] Anticipated 2012 Album Relea ..
It's a bit behind schedule, but here's my annual list of recorded releases I'm most looking forward to this year. A handful of 2012 Tuesdays have already passed, but the lag time allowed me to sneak in a bunch of just-announced full-lengths. I've included those that have already hit shelves (or servers), along with some rumored speculation and a couple of wishful thoughts to wrap it up. If something's not here, it's either due to apathy, ignorance, or forgetfulness. Your mission? Fill in the gaps. What'd I miss? What do I need to ...

  • Are there really people like that?
David Bazan – Gas and Matches For all its bravura, John Fairfax’s seafaring almost pales beside his earlier ventures. Footloose and handsome, he was a flesh-and-blood character out of Graham Greene, with more than a dash of Hemingway and Ian Fleming shaken in. At 9, he settled a dispute with a pistol. At 13, he [...]

  • Rosie Thomas releases With Love, tours, join ..
Looking for something to sweeten up your Tuesday? Look no further than With Love , the new full-length from Rosie Thomas, out as of V-Day on Sing-A-Long Records. Produced by Pedro the Lion’s David Bazan and featuring guest vocals from Iron and Wine’s Sam Beam, it’s a veritable frosted cupcake of indie deliciousness! Prior to recording With Love , Thomas struggled for two years with a thyroid disorder that created the unfortunate side effect of severe anxiety. That sounds… not happy? The album, however, reflects her experience of emerging out of that period in her life, as well as ...
