  • New music: Trust – Sulk
Get your black clothes on, join the throng – we're going to sit down and nod around the clock tonight As well as saying ridiculous things about "wax", "erotomania" and "dense black vapor of speed, space and tears", the press release for Toronto-based duo Trust stumbles on a fairly accurate description: "Trust is a pop hit factory buried in the mud." While Robert Alfons and Maya Postepski aren't exactly giving Xenomania a run for their money in the singalong stakes, there is a sense of pop melodies being dirtied up, not just on new single Sulk but throughout their ...

After more than 350 releases, tireless noise label Hospital Records are releasing their very first visual-only release. Changeless Blue Flame is a collage zine by power-electronics over-sharer and coldwave void-barer Dominick Fernow (Prurient, Cold Cave, Ash Pool, et al), presented as a split between his Prurient and Vatican Shadow monikers...

  • Moss Icon: "Guatemala"
Moss Icon , who formed Annapolis, Md. in 1986, split up in 1991, the year punk broke for everyone else. The progressive post-hardcore band were important to me and my friends; we were teenagers who, more or less, ignored Nirvana because our heads were so deep into a new, different realm-- we were old enough to be snobs, but young enough to be over-excited and consumed by our own small histories. Moss Icon were the perfect band for that situation, though the music's aged very well: Fronted by the trenchant (and poetic) religious-seeming stream-of-conscious sing-talk-scream of Jonathan Vance and piloted ...

  • Katadreuffe - Period
Amsterdam checks in here with this EP from Katadreuffe . I don’t know much about them other than that I’ve heard one other EP and enjoyed it. This is some smooth and mechanical sounding math-rock, very crisp sounding for whatever reason. Not some over processed junk with some fluttery notes all about, but rather a nice wall of noise that runs together with a sheen of being incredibly well though out before picking up and letting loose on a barrage of notes. Kind of like a Battles type thing, but way more serious and one that packs a bit ...

  • Cold Cave's Wes Eisold On His Ann Demeulemee ..
If there’s one fabric I’m willing to define myself by, it’s Ann Demeulemeester’s floral print wool from a few years back. (Extensive research has been unable to confirm the specific season — maybe it was produced in more than one?) It’s a stunning, specific print — the flowers look like they belong on the graves of a couple who drowned themselves in a love-suicide pact, mourning a romance not of this earth...
