Laneway Music Festival 2012: Top 5 Artists ..Australia’s Laneway Festival proves a remedy to those sick of the crowded, aggressive vibe which has crept into a lot of the countries’ major festivals. Created in 2004 and held in the slender back streets of Melbourne’s CBD, Laneway has spawned into a seven-city journey, stretching as far as Singapore. This year’s line-up was nothing short of breathtaking, with artists the likes of Feist, Active Child, M83 and SBTRKT (full line-up here ) performing. Watch: Alabama ShakesThere is an inherent difference between incorporating retro sounds into modern music and simply aping the styles of the past. When Cults channeled the girl groups of Motown's heyday, they transformed it into modern electronic pop and breezy almost psychedelic rock.
