Awesome Tapes: Cassette Doc Forthcoming Via ..A pair of aspiring filmmakers are currently scrambling to raise $25,000 on Kickstarter to fund Cassette: A Documentary , a chronicle of the “quiet comeback” of the boombox staple. Sure, the term “cassette tape” was recently wiped from the Oxford English Dictionary and those fickle little things are pretty clunky when compared to the Zune or whatever (hey, maybe the resurgence will also bring back the pencil!); but, the pair argue in a short video on their site, that the mix of nostalgia, portability, and accessibility has endeared tapes to a new generation. Nite Jewel - "One Second of Love"When L.A. artist Ramona Gonzalez released her first collection of lo-fi lounge music as Nite Jewel in 2008, her eight-track creations made a mark among the avant-pop underground. Her inaugural Good Evening LP generated ample interest in bedroom-disco, with highlights like "Weak for Me" and "What Did He Say?" pegging her aesthetic: 1980s pop filtered through a tin can. There are some dangerously good remixes in there which massively drive things up (e.g. Rex the Dogs edits of Triangle Walks just hits the roof). Track: Polarsetsby Lomo-Cam Wasn't particularly impressed by the original but this remix of Polarsets Sunshine Eyes by Channel Swimmer hits the spot. Idyllic, summery, poolside. Hopefully have a bit more from Channel Swimmer soon - I think this is the same guy who used to be Organ Morgan and featured on the old Cassette Culture way back when.
