Live Polka Stream!Okay, if you got past that headline, I applaud your curiosity. Or your devotion to all things polka. In truth, I don't know if tonight's free live webstream will include much polka, but it's very possible, since one of the bands playing is no other than Brave Combo . I haven't seen a lot of bands pushing live streams of concerts, but it seems a great way to get more people (particularly those outside of the concert area) excited about their music. Monday's mp3: For Those About to (Globally) ..Immersed in a session of Youtube nostalgia recently, I got to pondering my ambivalent attitude toward "rock." Many of the videos over which my sweetie and I were reminiscing were fun pop-rock from our high-school years. I no longer own any of this music, but I admit enjoying it. And while I listen to almost no current pop and rock, every once in a while a song comes along with an irresistible melody or hook and I can't help a moment of indulgent enjoyment. Sarah JaffeNot too long ago I stumbled upon this amazing singer-songwriter from Texas through Myspace. Sarah Jaffe was born on January 29, 1986 in Lufkin, TX. She currently lives in Denton, TX, a city where the musical talent runs deep (it’s also the home of Brave Combo, Midlake, and Robert Gomez). Sarah released her Even Born Again EP in August 2008. She just finished recording her first full-length album, Suburban Nature , in December 2008 that will be released this April. SXSW 2010: Brave ComboFiled under: Concerts and Tours , Exclusive Brave Combo, who started their march to musical adventurousness more than 30 years ago, appear yet again at SXSW , for what can only be described as the umpteenth year. "The festival's always been good to us," says frontman Carl Finch. "It's amazing how good things always seem to happen for us there." Brave Combo's sound is "eclectic, a mixture of polka, Cajun, roots, folk and life," he says.
