UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

Daniel Bell is an American minimal techno DJ. He was born in Sacramento, California, but grew up outside of Toronto, Canada, and later moved to Detroit where he collaborated with Richie Hawtin as Cybersonik for three years on Plus 8 records. In 1991, he started his own label, Acceler... Read More

  • The Blip Festival: Where the Geeks Are
When his predecessor first took office, even basic familiarity with a Web browser was considered the exclusive domain of geeks, but Mayor Bloomberg kicked off his 2012 with a tweet resolving to learn programming. Facebook built an empire from thumbs-up clicks, as evidenced by last week's IPO. The...

  • Retro Radiohead reduction
Youtube user QuintonSung has transposed the Radiohead albums OK Computer and Kid A in full, into 8-bit sound. The user who lists his interests as music, video games, sushi and Radiohead, has painstakingly combined three of those into 52 and 44 minute audio tracks, uploading them on youtube. They seem to have made a start on the band’s 95 album The Bends as well, with the tracks Planet Telex and Talk Show Host also finding their way into blip blop form.  The comments cry out for someone to make an accompanying video game – if you want to get started ...

  • Live: Watch The Throne. Jay-Z & Kanye West, ..
Let's set the sceptre rolling with a pithy adherence to the cult of celebrity. Who would you deem more famed: Jay-Z or Kanye West ? About which would you rather read stories of fabricated salaciousness? Would you sooner christen your offspring Shawn or Kanye? Would you care? Indeed does anyone care? To quote Mr. West, "Do anybody make real shit anymore?" Watch The Throne was arguably, to clumsily paraphrase, really quite shit in places. Fanciful inquisitions aside however, if this uniting to tour the record aforesaid ought to celebrate the coming together of two contemporary hip hop titans, this one ...

  • Fly Moon Royalty - "The Birthday Song"
Seattle electro-soul duo Fly Moon Royalty have been a rapidly growing blip on EARMILK's radar following the release of their self-titled debut album earlier this year and rightfully so. Since dropping their debut LP the duo has remained busy releasing a steady stream of music in preparation for the  release of a five-track EP...

  • Week 59: Delorean (Subiza)
Hi all! I hope everyone had a great weekend! Yesterday I uploaded some pictures from the wondrous Beach House show I attended on Saturday at Athens’ Georgia Theatre. I was so close to the stage and the pictures came out pretty well! I heard all the songs from their new album, Bloom , for the first time…live! I can’t wait to listen to it again when it’s released tomorrow :) But enough of that…onto the music! Last week was a relatively calm/retro week for the blog. I decided it would be best if I started this week ...

  • 5 Things You Might Not Know About John Miliu ..
These days, after "Lord of the Rings" and "Game Of Thrones," fantasy isn't just big business, but a genre that's spawned critically acclaimed awards favorites, and picked up Oscars and Emmys by the handful. As such, it's easy to forget that prior to the 1980s, the genre barely existed on screen, with animated takes on Tolkein's works the only really significant blip on the radar. But in 1977, "Star Wars," a film that owed as much to high fantasy as to science-fiction, became the biggest hit in history, and that opened the door to all kinds ...

  • Fuyuki Yamakawa - Atomic Guitar Mark I & II ..
I'll let you in on one of my sources for finding new material for this blog. There's a music-based social network called blip.fm that has styled itself rather closely on Twitter. I follow several interesting folk there including Steve Shelley of Sonic Youth. Lots of quality blues rock numbers on his playlist. The blues this isn't. Atomic Guitar Mark I & II was recently on display at the Tokyo Art Fair. It's an installation consisting of a pair of yellow Stratocasters plugged into two amps, standing beside a radiation suit. Why the radiation suit? Well, over ...

  • US Chart Roundup: 'MDNA' RIP
The Billboard Hot 100 is pretty flat this week, as once again there are no new songs in the Top 10, and Rihanna 's "Where Have You Been" zipping into the Top 40 (from #78 to #29 ) is about the only single action worth mentioning. And over on the Top 200, where Carrie Underwood 's Blown Away is the #1 album, let's face it — Madonna MDNA Death Watch has become quite an event. In its sixth week on the chart, Ye Olde Madgepyre's LP has dropped to #65 . So is "Turn Up The Radio" really getting a single ...

  • NEW VIDEO!: wisin & yandel feat jennifer lop ..
wisin & yandel feat jennifer lopez - follow the leader [normally this wouldn't make my blip, but the parkour filled video with jlo and crew running around the streets of acapulco is actually kind of cool. director jessy terrero does a very solid job of streamlining the stunts with the actual stars and in typical jlo fashion, product placement is heavily involved. it's OTT and shameless and well, i watched it from beginning to end... like you will too!] http://feeds.feedburner.com/WongiesMusicWorld

  • Clu – What Can I Say? (Simon Bird Remix)
Visit Indie Shuffle to download. Sounds like: Deadelus, Active Child Song: Clu - What Can I Say? (Simon Bird Remix) [download here ] What's so good? When remixing Clu’s “What Can I Say?”, Simon Bird didn’t want to change too much from the the original , minimal version. What he did do was take “What Can I Say” from the club and placed it in the chapel. By that I mean, it sounds like it’s playing in a chapel. Seriously! Massive reverb and airy vocals make the punchy blip of the original a little more ethereal — a little less ...

  • Boerd – Slacker EP
I’m such a sucker for minimal/house/electronica/futureblap/funkyblip/jungle grime?… now I’m just making up names, but it’s gotta have the blip and the blap if I’ma like it! ya dig? ?(o_0)\ Aaaanyway, here’s a new track by a swedish dude named Bård Ericson, who also goes by Boerd. The first, aptly titled “Happy Again”, is mos def a smile jam. The second, “Nostalgica”, sounds like the intro to an amazingly cool adventure, no? Both are part of the full Slacker EP. All sorts of cool up in here. Tweet

  • Introducing: The M Machine
At the outset, San Francisco trio The M Machine aren't your likely suspects for Skrillex 's OWSLA imprint. Tracks like " Faces " and " Deep Search ," which come off of the just-released Metropolis Pt. I EP, seem far too subdued to even register a blip on the electro kingpin's radar. • Daily Download: Loudon Wainwright III, “Over ..
If you only know Loudon Wainwright III as the crazzzzzzzzzy dad on Undeclared — an all-too-brief blip on the comic genius radar that is Judd Appatow’s early career — then his 22nd (!) studio album will come as a bit of a shock. As will any of his records, of course, but this one’s particularly [...]
