Man, it's been an eclectic month at the AU offices. We're finally getting through the haul of CDs from SXSW and CMW, including the awesome, awesome, AWESOME Oberhofer release Time Capsules II ; seriously, get on listening to that record, it's fantastic. We're also still wrapped in Prince -mania, as well as some slight anticipation for certain Splendour In The Grass highlights Howler . We're already missing Groovin' The Moo artists Wavves and Ball Park Music , and with the news of Sigur Ros coming over our way in November there's been a binge of post-rock goodness ...

Brisbane indie-popsters Cub Scouts (pictured) have recently complete national jaunts with Pluto Jonze and Ball Park Music, but now turn their attention to the video for single Do You Hear. Chiming and hand-clappy, Do You Hear may just make you pine for that summer you know has just passed. Check ‘em out live at The Loft on Saturday May 26 with Fairchild Republic and Lyons Apprentice , $10+bf.

  • Live Review: Groovin' The Moo Festival - Can ..
Arriving in sunny Canberra around 10.30am, it was a shock to the senses when exiting the car at The Meadows on the grounds of the University of Canberra. Festival goers were treated to a taste of temperatures of around 9 degrees (I checked) with a wonderful, icy breeze thrown in for good measure - welcome to Canberra in autumn! The cold weather in mind, I still find it both confusing and humourous that there were punters dressed in shorts, singlets and all number of summer clothing items. Having ventured to Canberra last year for Groovin’ The Moo and also missing ...

  • Live Review: Groovin' The Moo - Maitland Sho ..
The only issue I have with Groovin' The Moo is having to get up real early on a Saturday morning to drive up the coast from Sydney. For the third year in a row I'm doing it hungover. One day I'll learn! After going through customs style interrogation getting in the gate, I took up prime position in front of the main stages to catch the end of San Cisco 's set. Their inoffensive, preppy pop tunes grew a large crowd who were ready to dance and sing along. Two piece Big Scary were up next with a ...

  • Live Review: Ball Park Music - The Hi-Fi, Br ..
Since the release of their debut "Happiness and the Surrounding Suburbs" Ball Park Music have become bigger than internet kittens and deservedly so! Their 180º Tour has seen them playing the largest venues of their career and tonight they'd packed the Hi-Fi for the 20th show of the tour. Opening with "Misirlou" and wearing Pulp Fiction-esque black and white suits, the song melded into album opener "Literally Baby". The crowd seemed to be unable to reign in their enthusiasm as spontaneous ‘pyjama’ dancing (the daggiest of all the dances) rippled through their limbs. "Shithaus" was followed by a box-fresh ...

  • Album Review: Triple J - Triple J's Hottest ..
Triple J’s Hottest 100 is one of the most anticipated countdowns of each year. It tends to have something for everyone – representing the year in music. 2011’s Hottest 100 was, of course, no exception and features a variety of songs from a vast range of genres and artists/bands. The annual two disc CD release, Triple J’s Hottest 100 Vol. 19 is a 41 track compilation, featuring a selection of the songs that made the top 100 – and a stellar compilation at that. The variety of songs on these two discs is really commendable – you get a ...

  • Review: Keep On Dancin’s - The End Of Everyt ..
The vinyl reissue of the Keep On Dancin’s 2011 debut LP is likely to kickstart a long, slavish love affair with the Brisbane quartet, writes MATT SHEA . For all the vibrancy and colour inherent in the Brisbane music scene, all the angles and attitude and spirit, it’s hard to remember the last time a truly great album emerged from this city. There have been a slew of strong long players from local bands over the last couple of years – Ball Park Music, Velociraptor, The Grates, An Horse, and Kitchen’s Floor all come to mind – but never something ...
