  • Film Review: Iron Sky (2012)
'Iron Sky' (UK Release: 23 May '12) // Words: Ced Yuen Nazis from the Moon: that’s the concept for 'Iron Sky' , which was scheduled for a single-day release** before going straight to DVD. I wasn’t expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised. Despite the ridiculous concept and low budget, it fares no worse than something like 'Transformers 3' . In 2018, the US president (a thinly veiled Sarah Palin spoof) sends a black man into space as a publicity stunt. The astronaut ( Christopher Kirby ) stumbles across Nazis, who have been hiding on the moon. Thinking that they are being invaded ...

  • Konx-om-Pax to release an album on Planet Mu ..
Konx-om-Pax knows how to build scenes from different galaxies , where maybe it’s normal and casual for jets of rainbow flames to shoot through tribal festivals and for pinwheels to have heartbeats and for jellyfish to be covered in jewels. Maybe he even hangs out in those galaxies, getting there by way of a rocket made of Silly-Putty or a chrome chariot pulled by anthropomorphic geometric shapes. You might even know him, or at least know of him,. The Glasgow-based artist, whose real name is Tom Scholefield, has made videos for the likes of Hudson Mowhawke, Mogwai, Martyn, Jamie Lidell ...

  • Bright Matter, the electro pop project of Br ..
Bright Matter , the electro pop project of Brian Graham we told you about back in December , have a new dramatic single out called “Astronaut”. The song is about an astronaut named Neil, whose ship breaks down orbiting Earth. This is one last, desperate plea to try to make one last effort to connect to anything. Reminds me a bit of the fantastic film Moon, and how awful and degrading the feeling of complete loneliness can be. The vocals are rightfully gigantic, and after hearing the track, feel ever so bad for Neil. Facebook Twitter

  • Phil Lesh Telstar Night at Terrapin Crossroa ..
When Grateful Dead/Furthur bassist Phil Lesh first revealed his plan to build a Bay Area venue, one of the more unorthodox events Lesh mentioned the club would host were dubbed “Telstar.” Lesh explained that on these nights he would put together a band for an evening of free-form improvisation. Now that Terrapin Crossroads has been open for a few months, the time has come for the first Telstar event.  Phil will team up with Furthur band mates John Kadlecik (guitar) and Jeff Chimenti (keys) as well as drummer Jaz Sawyer and multi-instrumentalist Jon Graboff of The Cardinals for the ...

  • In Photos Special: Independent Label Market ..
The 405 spent a thoroughly pleasant couple of hours at the Independent Label Market in Spitalfields - where a dangerous (to our wallets anyhow) amount of vinyl, CDs, cassetes, badges, coffee and hangovers were on offer, from all our favourite labels. A smashing atmosphere in terms of company and goodwill was absorbed, alongside a range of oddities to explore. Such as the 'Bobby Womack Experience' via XL Recordings; simply stick your head in an astronaut's helmet, and see what Womack would see and hear. Check out the photos from the annual London-based event in this article. Warp Records, who served ...

  • Jack White Is Kinda Mad At The 'Guinness Boo ..
But they’ve got nothing but love for my man. Pitchfork : The latest issue of Interview magazine contains a chat between astronaut Buzz Aldrin and Jack White. During the course of the interview, White expressed his frustration with Guinness World Records . One would assume that White, with his many endeavors to perpetually out-do his own strangeness, must have broken a record along the way, but apparently not. Back in July 2007, the White Stripes gave a performance that consisted of exactly one note in Newfoundland, Canada. The show, he said, lasted only a millisecond. Afterwards, White tried to have the ...
