Arthur & Yu

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

Arthur & Yu are an indie folk band from Seattle , Washington . Their sound has been compared to that of various 1960s bands, as well as an aesthetic appeal of John Lennon / Yoko Ono . [ 2 ] The duo's title roots from childhood nicknames, 'Arthur' and 'Yu', for Olsen and Westcott, res... Read More

  • Gold Leaves – The Ornament (2011)
If you’re a fan of Foxes">Fleet Foxes, Devendra Banhart, or Velvet Underground, I highly recommend checking out Gold Leaves. It’s a new project of Grant Olsen’s, who is best known as one half of the Seattle band, Yu">Arthur & Yu. The lo-fi layering of instruments and lush vocals on Gold Leaves debut, The Ornament, blend [...]

  • Gold Leaves announces tour with A. A. Bondy ..
Seattle's Grant Olsen (of Yu">Arthur & Yu) is hitting the road with his Gold Leaves project, just in time for the fall season (when the leaves actually start turning gold). Touring behind his recent debut LP, The Ornament, Olsen will support fellow rambler A. A. Bondy as they trek across the American midwest, south, and eastern seaboard. We fully expect Olsen's lush, quinte... Read more..

  • Gold Leaves
Gold Leaves recently came to my attention and I am most certainly happy about this. Gold Leaves is the new project of Grant Olsen (Yu">Arthur & Yu). "The Ornament" is the first full length album that he has released under this name. Containing 9 tracks, the album is full of shimmering melodies and well thought out pop sensibilities. It was recorded and co-produced and recorded by Jason Quever (Papercuts). Please listen to a stand out cut from the album, out now on Hardly Art . MP3: Cruel/Kind

Tweet Gold Leaves is the solo project of Grant Olsen, formerly of amiable psych-folk duo Yu">Arthur & Yu. He began work on his more conventional indie-folk solo debut, “The Ornament”, all the way back in 2007, and the intervening years have been tricky: Olsen has lost loved ones along the way and, in a less [...]

  • Gold Leaves: The Ornament
Gold Leaves The Ornament Hardly Art Records [2011] Fire Note Says: Gold Leaves is a simple straightforward indie-folk record that will keep you thinking. Album Review: Gold Leaves is the creation of Grant Olsen, which is one half of the Seattle indie folk outfit Yu">Arthur & Yu. His collection of tracks were four years in the making, as the record reflects on many of his personal happenings that include everything from birth to death. It is a mellow thought stirring type of listen that takes a multitude of spins to get into but Olsen's warm vocals make it easy ...

  • Music Review: Gold Leaves - The Ornament
Gold Leaves The Ornament [Hardly Art; 2011] by Rowan Savage Rating: Imagine, if you will, The Associates' immortal "Party Fears Two" translated into the guitar-folk idiom. It may be a personal auditory idiosyncrasy, but this was the association (pun intended) that came to me on hearing "The Ornament," the eponymous single from Gold Leaves' new album. There is a certain quality of lachrymose hysteria, of just-sublimated sexuality, of the irresistible crest and crashing of a wave, which inheres in both pieces. I was curious (voracious, even) as to whether this quality would play itself out in the rest of the ...

Click image to download full album Sounds like: Devendra Banhart, Foxes">Fleet Foxes, Cotton Jones "Gold Leaves - The Ornament" What's so good? Gold Leaves is a beautiful new creation by Seattle-based singer/songwriter Grant Olsen (of Yu">Arthur & Yu fame). Their new full-length, The Ornament , dropped this week, and I recommend you pick yourself up a copy. This album is so easy to get swept away in; it’s ethereal, reflective, and uplifting. Think Foxes">Fleet Foxes meets Devendra Banhart. As I listen to this album, it’s easy to pick up on the well-constructed mesh of old and new influences. It’s a classic vintage folk-modern indie rock sandwich and it is delicious! There is a handful of instruments that define this band — piano, guitar, tambourine, and ...
