  • Win 2 x tickets to Exit Festival 2012 in Ser ..
Serbia's most illustrious music festival is less than two months away. It takes place on a huge fortress on the Danube, and began life as a student protest against Milosevic's regime, I have just learnt. Amazing, amazing, amazing. In terms of 'bass music', as a dodgy definition of a genre (this site was named before all that thankfully), the festival's 'Happy Novi Sad' stage is all killer, apparently picked from just two of the scene's leading labels; it features Space Dimension Controller,  Lone,  Pariah, Teengirl Fantasy, and The Chain, George FitzGerald, Locked Groove, and Sigha. Also ...

(Previous entries have included mixes by the Rapture and the Big Pink .)  Foals Tapes  will be out on July 2. The series aims for "a selection made along the lines of an old school cassette mix tape," and Foals' entry is divided into two sides, one "more song-driven" and the other "more dance-oriented," according to a press release. It'll include tracks by Nicolas Jaar, Teengirl Fantasy, Sepalcure, Konono Nº1, Caribou, and others.  Side A: 01 Nicolas Jaar: "Variations" 02 Clark: "Ted" (Bibio remix ...

  • Foals to release new mixtape this July
Today !K7 have announced the third installment to their Tapes series. With previous contributions from The Big Pink and The Rapture, it's Foals turn to step up. Foals Tapes will be released July 2nd. Wanting it to reflect the whole band, Foals member Edwin Congreave stated that he wanted to do something more ambitious than a throwaway DJ mix. The track listing for the tape is as follows: Nicolas Jaar – ‘Variations’, Clark – 'Ted (Bibio Remix)', Dorian Concept – 'Tropical Hands', Condry Ziqubu – 'Confusion (Ma Afrika)', The Invisible – 'London Girl', JR Seaton – 'Way Savvy (Gatto Fritto Remix)', Blood Orange – 'Dinner', Tanner ...

  • Foals Prepare New Mix CD
Oxford band Foals have announced the release of a mix CD to be released on July 2nd, along with a string of DJ dates over the summer. The mix CD is apart of the !K7’s ‘Tapes’ series which has featured The Big Pink and The Rapture. There seems to be an outcry for nostalgic music formats recently, with sales of vinyl flying through the roof for first time in years - so this classic idea couldn’t come at a better time. "We wanted it to reflect the taste of the whole band" says keyboard player Edwin Congreave , "so I ...

  • "Infinity"
Over the past few years, Crosstown Rebels has undeniably been on quite a roll. Rather quickly, its label roster has become populated with a litany of stars, as artists like Jamie Jones, Plex">Maceo Plex, Art Department, and label boss Damian Lazarus have become some of the most in-demand DJs on the planet. Flanked by like-minded imprints such as Visionquest and Hot Creations, Crosstown Rebels is at the forefront of a unique brand of house music, one that references the bounce and carefree spirit of disco and '80s funk while offering a cleanly produced, Ibiza-friendly vibe. Love it or hate ...

  • Introducing: Climbers
Mexicali, Mexico is hardly known as a hotbed for deep-house talent, but all the same it's churned out some of the scene's newest prospects in Climbers , the duo comprised of Jay Blakk and Kiko Deal, two high-school friends who came together just last year to take over the dancefloor with their sultry, low-slung vocal jams. They may have a limited discography so far, but perhaps that's why everyone's so impressed with their brand-new EP for Culprit , Laws Of Attraction —an incredible early outing that we're proud to offer exclusively on Beatport. It's already got ...

  • Track Of The Day: Jamie Jones - Our Time In ..
Straight-up, " Our Time In Liberty ," which we're currently offering exclusively on Beatport, is a bit of an odd tune. Firstly, Crosstown Rebels and Hot Creations boy wonder Jamie Jones ' symphonic string stabs sound like he might be pulling a fast one on us as he runs up and down the keyboard without a care in the world while the "melody" jumps all over the place. Then, Art Department singer Kenny Glasgow chimes in with an equally off-kilter vocal that's half hushed tones and half over-the-top yelpy croon. "Our Time" is literally all over the place, with its underlying ...
