Visit Indie Shuffle to download. Sounds like: Sigur Ros, Jonsi, Sufjan Stevens, Alpine Song: Founds - Avalanches [download here ] What's so good? This track caught me seriously by surprise. I was so enraptured when I first heard it that I pulled over on a busy highway to find out what it was. The song I’m talking about is “Avalanches” by Brisbane band Founds. Having been together for just over a year, the six-piece is currently finishing their debut album Hadean , which will be released in the coming months. “Avalanches” is a captivating, mesmerising track – more likely to be made ...

Visit Indie Shuffle to download. Sounds like: Ladyhawke, Metric, Little Boots Song: Catcall - Satellites [download here ] What's so good? Australian female pop music has been overshadowed in recent years by the New Zealand juggernauts of Kimbra  and Ladyhawke . Australia however, has a (not so) secret weapon to rival the aforementioned sensations. After initially starting out in punk band Kiosk, Catherine Kelleher, who goes by the moniker Catcall, has released her debut album The Warmest Place . Four years have passed since Catcall’s self-released EP Anniversary – a hip-hop infused first offering which lead to her being signed to Ivy League ...

  • Alpine – Hands
It was after longtime friend of the show Dom Alessio took to the airwaves over at East Village Radio on the weekend and I realised on Saturday that more and more of my must-listen playlist was being dominated by homegrown artists that J and I came to tentatively agree that Australian music is totally killing [...]

Listen on Rdio Listen on Spotify Welcome to a (somewhat belated, but what do you expect from me at this point?) SXSW edition of the Sum The Greater playlist! SXSW has definitely gotten out of control over the past five years I’ve attended, but it’s still unparalleled for the sheer volume and quantity of music in a small space. I had to throw two events for work, which were great fun. We had an afternoon arcade where we literally brought in arcade games and a wheel of prizes (plus the usual free booze and such). We also had ...

I just stumbled across this single from six-piece Australian band Alpine on KEXP, featured as their Song of the Day . Recently coming off a SXSW showcase, the female-forward group is gearing up for their full-length album debut on Ivy League Records. “Hands” was released about six months in anticipation – a long lead time to the album but I believe it will be worth the wait. The female vocalists take a shoegaze approach to their indie-pop ...

While some people get excited about St. Patrick’s Day or Fat Tuesday, around these parts there is another “unofficial” holiday that, if you haven’t already noticed, we like to geek out about and that’s Record Store Day . While we detailed some of those yesterday , and we’ve got a list of our favorite RSD releases coming later today, the one that I’ve got my eyes on is a split 7-inch ...
