  • Yeasayer Return With New Album
Yeasayer are to return, with new album 'Fragrant World' due to be released on August 20th. Yeasayer do things their own way. The Brooklyn oddballs won widespread acclaim with their extravagant sophomore effort 'Odd Blood', which spawned the joyous anthem 'Ambling Alp'. Taking time off, the band began piecing together a follow up. Earlier this month, one hundred fans were selected at random and sent a CD-R featuring the brand new Yeasayer track 'Henrietta'. Urged to spread the song as far as possible, 'Henrietta' quickly began appearing in forums and on torrents. Stream / download the song (legally) HERE. 'Henrietta' is ...

  • Yeasayer : Henrietta
This is the first of new music from Yesayer, a cerebral pop tune that washes over you with synths and a tight bass and drum groove. It may not be over the top pop single that “Ambling Alp” was but it does have an epic sweeping outro that calls out to this Henrietta. Good to [...]

  • Everyone that signed up for Yeasayer’s maili ..
Everyone that signed up for Yeasayer ’s mailing list, got a nice treat in the mail yesterday, as a physical form of their brand new track, “Henrietta” arrived. Of course in this day and age, the song quickly got on the interwebs for the masses to enjoy, and I somewhat enjoyed the futuristic vibes coming from it. Still this doesn’t seem like single material though, as this is nowhere near as catchy as “Ambling Alp”, “Madder Red” or “O.N.E.”. It’s a very sonically explorer driven song, that deserves multiple listen to really get everything out of ...

  • HT Interview: The Then, Now World of Steve K ..
I’m a little late calling Steve Kimock for a planned interview, but he’s totally cool. All he needs is 10 seconds to fix a bowl of… “What is this?” he says. “Gorilla munch and Honey Nut O’s? This is a special mixture. Somebody here is four.” “Somebody” would be Kimock’s youngest boy, Ryland Cazadero, and why shouldn’t Kimock be firing up tasty cereal treats around this otherwise nondescript Thursday lunchtime? What did you expect him to be doing? “He’s an absolutely lovely little terror,” Kimock laughs, checking to make sure I’m asking about ...

  • Review: Kids Of Zoo - Kids Of Zoo
Buried somewhere in the virtual reams of commentary devoted to the recent Labor Party leadership stoush was an irrefutable observation: both leadership contenders lacked the basic communications skills to convey their respective messages to both the ALP caucus, and the broader community. Drowning in the rhetorical sludge of modern management speak, the so-called narrative is a rancid rhetorical slurry masquerading as a clear story. It’s in such times that the brutal honesty and glistening clarity of punk rock comes to the fore. The agenda is political in the most basic sense of the term; the confrontational narrative smacks you ...

  • Alp Jewels | Balizzards

  • A Special Addition to the Sky
A while back, at the very start of Blue Sky I began cooresponding through emails with a wonderful young lady from Buenos Aires. She encouraged me with amazing words of support as I set out on this new path alone. Her name was Juana and she participated in our Under the Radar Birthday Special. Juana stayed in touch with me month after month, always unaware that it was during the hard times that she was sending these great inspirational messages. I needed her, and I very much needed someone like her on the team only I did not want to ...

  • Friday 5: Songs for Peace and Justice
Most people in the States have an extended weekend coming up — which is awesome and whatnot — but are we truly appreciating what the meaning of this 3-day weekend holds? Sure, we have some extra time to pretend like we’re going to be really productive, but you know that most of you are just going to incessantly party and then nurse your celebratory hangover while watching that new reality TV program about a behind-the-scenes sloth-training circus (I made that up and I swear if that ever seriously happens I will quit television). Anyway, if that’s the case, maybe this ...

Seguir leyendo »

  • Download: Two Offcuts From The Very Best Mix ..
Words: Saam Das Radioclit and Esau Mwamwaya aka The Very Best recently put out a 'Super Mom' mixtape but seeing as I'm not really into mixtapes, that passed me by. But after a handy retweet from Stephen Moshi Moshi , I can bring you a couple of songs that didn't quite make the mix. Check out the infusion of African elements into both Yeasayer's 'Ambling Alp' and Jamie xx 's remix of 'You Got The Love'. My Googling powers suggest that both tracks have been available for a while but if you've failed to pick either up ...

  • Yeasayer's Record Store Day Tracks Aren't Ha ..
Yeasayer was one of many bands to release "new" music on Record Store Day, dropping two unreleased cuts from their Odd Blood recording sessions. Despite lackluster critical praise, I was a fan of that LP's retro-avant pop (anyone who has been around me when "Ambling Alp" plays can attest to this), so it's nice to hear the band return to that well, albeit briefly, one more time.
