  • SCALE MODELS: Punk & Hardcore Reviews
GALLOWS – Death In Birth (Shock) Who Goes There?: Sunny England’s favourite punk/hardcore sons unveil the new engine under the hood. How Goes It?: Following the departure of Frank Carter and the polite implosion of Alexisonfire, Wade MacNeil crossed a pond to front the consistently abrasive Gallows. Death In Birth is the pudding and there are four tracks of proof that MacNeil was an excellent choice. Bringing a range way further down in the register, MacNeil’s vocals sit well within the mid-t ...

  • We need to talk about '11: August
With Boris Johnson off having a jolly time in the rockies, nobody was looking after London and the populace turned to rioting. Noel Gallagher, inevitably, had something to say as his brother's trouser shop was robbed . More seriously, large swathes of indie records were destroyed as criminals used the riots as cover for a raid on Sony's distribution centre. Not everyone was supportive about the attempts to help out stricken labels , though. Thank God, though, that Joe McElderry was safe . For some reason, the National Trust released a punk album. Predictably, John Lydon had a moan . Equally unhappy ...

  • Album Review: Gallows - Death Is Birth EP ..
Gallows return to the fold with a new EP, a new frontman in Wade MacNeil (formerly of Alexisonfire) and a return to their sometime residence at Thirty Days Of Night Records. The EP itself is four tracks of punk-infused hardcore that clocks in at just over seven minutes in total. It is hard to make a full judgement on the band’s new sound, but the difference in vocals and general swagger will undoubtedly be the main talking point of this release. ‘Mondo Chaos’ is a fantastic opening gambit by the band. It has the musical swagger of Gallows of ...

  • REVIEW: Gallows – Death Is Birth EP
    Artist: Gallows
 Album: Death Is Birth
Genre: Punk Earlier this year Frank Carter stunned fans by announcing he was leaving London Hardcore Punk mob, Gallows. Carter stated that the band were in a creative crossroads, and his ideas differed from the others. Shortly after Carter’s announcement, acclaimed Canadian post-hardcore group Alexisonfire disbanded with vocalist George Pettit stating two members had departed, and had ultimately led to the band splitting up. Wade MacNeil was one of those two members (City & Colour’s Dallas Green being the other,) and within days he was announced as Carter’s replacement in Gallows. So ...

Sleepless is a Toronto-based trio, comprised of singer/guitarist Ben Scriver, bassist Cameron Zwicker, and drummer Nathan Dale.  The group recently released their debut EP Unsteady Hands . It's a 5-track record of melodramatic alternative rock (and screaming) that should appeal to fans of bands like Alexisonfire and Neverending White Lights . Look for them on tour shortly. • REVIEW: Ghost Thrower – 10 Songs
Artist: Ghost Thrower Album: 10 songs Genre: Hardcore/Punk Label: Equal Vision This sure has been a rough week for music. Somebody should have told Thursday and Thrice that announcing their break ups within 24 hours of each other is a lot to ask of the fans that grew up on their music. This combined with Alexisonfire’s hiatus, the bands from my childhood are dropping like flies. These bands had such a profound effect on so many people during their relatively lengthy careers, it’s hard to think of a music scene without them around, but I suppose the…
