  • Scottish Album of the Year 2012 - Shortlist ..
The shortlist for the inaugural Scottish Album of the Year Award has been unveiled. A sort of Caledonian counterpart to the Mercury, the Scottish Album of the Year Award is a brave attempt to let the world know about the nation's rich music scene. Launched late last year, a host of industry figures were approached to have their say. Whittling down the entries, the public were allowed to have a measure of input. Now the shortlist for the first ever Scottish Album of the Year award has been announced - full details below: Bill Wells & Aidan Moffat - Everything’s Getting ...

  • Let's Get Lost Festival - Live At The Silk M ..
Cleverly concealed behind red brick, on the banks of the River Derwent, is Derby’s Silk Mill. This venue is rich in heritage. It was once the first mill of its kind in Britain, but today sees it in a rather different incarnation. This urban space containing old industrial machinery and Rolls Royce aeroplane propellers has been transformed. Hidden away from passing trade, it houses the aptly named Let’s Get Lost festival by Holy Smokes. First to grace our ears on arrival are Crushing Blows: an indie noise-pop duo with catchy guitar hooks and danceable melodies to boot. Think ...

Fill your ears with metal and more by listening to this mixtape put together by the curators of this month's I'll Be Your Mirror festival Fans of South Park, as well as anyone with an interest in metal, will be familiar with the Slayer tune Raining Blood: on an episode called Die Hippie, Die it was used to drive a hippie festival from town. • Diminished Frustrations. Human Don't Be Angr ..
Sometime [circa 2006], somewhere [likely Falkirk] a solitary tear will most probably have trickled down bristled whisker to the sound of Philophobia , the news of Arab Strap's untimely demise bungling about within churning stomach like jittering die sheltered from the perils of this world by the plastic rotunda of a Pop-O-Matic. It's not as though the band's constituents Malcolm Middleton and Aidan Moffat have receded into periods of protracted mourning nor lengthy spells of hibernation since; it's just that they're indubitably at their best when strapped into the same voyage, sat side by side in ...

  • Human Don't Be Angry - Human Don't Be Angry ..
With ten years spent as one half of Arab Strap plus five solo albums to his name, Malcolm Middleton has chosen to title his new, largely instrumental project after the German version of board game Frustration (‘Mensch ärgere Dich nicht’). It seems obvious that this is his attempt to shake off some of the negative connotations of the 'miserable singer-songwriter' tag that he has picked up over the years. When I saw him perform a Human Don't Be Angry set last year it was entirely instrumental and in fact over the course of this album only three of the ...
