  • Breaking Your Boring Band Is Really Expensiv ..
Without even a hint of embarrassment, brothers Abner and Harper Willis penned this piece for Time on how much money—of whoever’s—they’ve spent trying to launch their music career. Any independent musicians out there agree? We’ve been mentored by former British rock stars, posed for photo shoots, hung out with models, worked with Grammy-nominated producers and rocked some of the top clubs in New York (places like the Mercury Lounge and the Highline Ballroom), opening for some of our favorite bands. This is our dream. We’re living it. And we’re broke… Recording. Our recent ...

  • Abner and Harper Willis are a pair of brothe ..
Abner and Harper Willis are a pair of brothers who front “the New York City-based indie rock band” Two Lights. Their idea of success includes scoring a worthless “VIP pass” for an unnamed British pop star and then being surprised when the backstage room didn’t look like a P. Diddy White Party , a review in a third-tier NYC free magazine that meaninglessly describes their music as having “the magical power to obliterate wintery thoughts,” and hiring “a manager who’s helped break artists like Blur and the Smashing Pumpkins” — which is code that anyone familiar with the music industry ...

  • I'm so Depressed -Abner Jay
From WIKI: Abner Jay (1921 – 1993) was an American multi-instrumentalist, who is best known for performing eccentric, blues infused folk music, as a one man band. His idiosyncratic lyrics and style can also be considered within the realm of outsider music. -->READ MORE Dynamic Party Blogging

  • Sub Pop's Awesome List of End-of-the-Year Li ..
Sub Pop has compiled a massive list of top tens from friends and artists —from Robin Pecknold to their UPS driver—and they’re all worth a read. Here are some of the highlights… Robin Pecknold of Foxes">Fleet Foxes Robin’s Playlist on Spotify 1. Kurt Vile – Smoke Ring for My Halo & Bill Callahan – Apocalypse – “I got… runner ups… YEEEAAH !” and the part in “Universal Applicant” where Bill does the flare gun sound effects. 2. The license plate that said “SNUTS” 3. The section of “Codex” by Radiohead where he sings “Jump off the end” and the piano ascends but the vocal melody descends. And the drum sound that’s like tapping your finger on a chair at the airport. 4. Portishead in Poznan, Poland & Bill Callahan in Chorzow, Poland. 5. The Walkmen playing horns together in the basement of the Masonic Temple in Cleveland, recording it on my phone, and then watching it all the time. 6. Van Dyke Parks’ business card 7. The album “To My Long Lost Love” by an anonymous Portland musician. Easily the new album I’ve listened to most. 8. The show Breaking Bad 9. Etta James’ version of “God’s Song (That’s Why I Love Mankind)” by Randy Newman 10. William Tyler, BEHOLD THE SPIRIT ! So awesome. • Abner Jay - Folk Song Stylist (2010)
Mississippi Records' collection of his early tracks. Musically jumps around from gospel to folk to blues, but all tracks are united by his seriously powerful vocal performance. I can't recommend this enough. Enjoy.

portend \por-TEND\, verb: To indicate (events, misfortunes, etc.) as in future; to foreshadow; to bode. Portend comes from Latin portendere, to indicate, to predict, from por- (variant of pro-), before + tendere, to stretch out, to spread. Thus that which portends is that which stretches out before us into the future. Gaming sense The ability to sense things in games, simply because of predictable, long-standing game cliches. My gaming sense tells me that this innocuous red barrel will explode if thrown. My gaming sense tells me that this grave will have valuable items in it if I dig it up. My ...

  • 42 Years Ago Today: John & Yoko's Montreal B ..
About.com : On May 24, 1969, John and Yoko flew to the Bahamas. John found the island too hot and humid to stay in bed there for a week. So they abruptly left. The newlyweds headed north, taking corner suite rooms 1738–40-42 at the stately Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal on May 26, 1969 to stage their second weeklong bed-in for peace. As Dave Bist, a reporter for the Montreal Gazette recalled, “All kinds of people came to pay their respects, from comedian-singer Tommy Smothers to L’il Abner cartoonist Al Capp, who kind of betrayed the price of ...
