  • The Great Escape 2012 // The 405 Review
The 405 team was out in force for The Great Escape this year, so rather than bringing you a band-by-band account of our time in Brighton, our editors/writers have chosen their five favourite bands from the event. Who came out on top? Read on to find out... Photos by Tim Boddy James Canham Swords">Forest Swords - Tim and myself arrived partway through Swords">Forest Swords set (they started at the same time AlunaGeorge finished) to a stunned and mostly silent crowd. The two of them on stage (one at the mic, laptop and electronics and another on the bass ...

  • The Camden Crawl 2012 - Review (Sunday)
Throwing the migratory concept of the multi-venue multi-gig idea out of the window, due to a weird combination of the organisers timetable programming and our own summer festival schedule which gives opportunities to see certain artists at numerous events and therefore not necessarily this weekend in London, our whole second day  of the Camden Crawl is spent in the bunting dressed Wheelbarrow pub. Camden Crawl ? More like Camden Stationary. As the music and alcohol flows a constant stream of bladder-stressed punters are found pushing their way towards the front, for the location of the toilets is like a space planners ...

REVIEW OF HELLO VIDEO/THE FIRE AND I/TOMMY REILLY/LITTLE KICKS/ FATHERSON/KASSIDY/BOMBSCARE : ABERDEEN EXHIBITION CENTRE : 28 APRIL Having acquired a (very small) stake in Scottish craft beer hipsters Brewdog, this entitled me to attend, along with a mate, their AGM/5th Birthday party being held at the cavernous AECC in Aberdeen. Initially I was looking forward only to sampling some of the Company’s excellent beverages, however, further info provided nearer the event highlighted that there would also be a number of bands entertaining the assembled shareholders from late afternoon. Therefore, the event basically took on a ...

  • * * * * * The Ocean Doesn’t Want Me * * * * ..
The Ocean Doesn’t Want Me is a 3 piece band from Pretoria, South Africa. Three guys wrestling with dejection, losing their innocence, basking in apathy and making a damn racket along the way. Instead of subscribing to any particular style of music, they have rather committed to exploring their collective influences. The usual suspects make an [...]

  • The Good The Bad perform with MC5's Wayne Kr ..
Ramshackle surf shredders The Good The Bad have just posted a video of their SXSW experience- being joined onstage by veteran MC5 guitarist Wayne Kramer. Kramer described the Danish 3 piece as 'the most original band I've heard in a decade' before joining them in a blistering rendition of the MC5 classic Kick Out The Jams, which you can enjoy below: The Good The Bad & Wayne Kramer (MC5) 'Kick Out The Jams' from The Good The Bad on Vimeo .   The Good The Bad released their second album 018 to 033  late in 2011-- to grab a listen to more ...

  • Speak & The Spells
Here’s an oldie release via one of my fav labels, Robot Elephant Records. It’s Speak And The Spells‘ She’s Dead EP from 2010 and I was thinking, as I browsed RER’s back catalogue online, that this record is perfect for a not-so-sunny Sunday afternoon like today. I hope you like a little bit of garage rock: Speak & The Spells are a 3 piece doing this retro rockabilly-style revival thing complete with fuzzed out guitars, pounding rolling bass and rock and roll vocals howlin’ and screamin into the night. And you know how sometimes this kinda stuff ...

  • Beaching Jellyfish
Electric Jellyfish features Michael Beach, whose Mountains & Valleys tape on Twin Lakes Records last year was a delightful, underrated gem. Electric Jellyfish is a different kettle of...er...fish though. The Melbourne 3 piece bark up David Yow's rancid tree, yet there is more space lurking in the shadows that focuses less on the abuse and more on the tension. They are a rad little band, and whilst its taken almost forever for me to post about, they have released a little number that is bound to melt that stupid grin off your face. Available through Twin Lakes Records ...

Kling Klang are a five piece kraut-punk band from Liverpool, consisting of four synth players and a drummer. Formed in mid 1999, as a 3 piece using only cheap synths and old drum machines, they released Untitled@33rpm on the Liverpool e.p. and the Vander 7” as this lineup. In 2001 Kling Klang became a 5-piece [...]

Check out the first update below! From Rick   Jimenez: Catching up for lost time will keep this not as in depth as usual for now, but for the time being here’s a crash recap of the first 10 days of This is Hell’s first shows of 2012… We played upstate NY in a gymnasium with a giant undiveable stage. • Live Review: Two Jackals - Bullies - Fat Whi ..
ORIGINAL OUTSIDER// THE SOCIAL// OXFORD CIRCUS// MARCH 20TH If it feels a bit like an end of year school show at The Social tonight, it’s probably because most of the bands on the triple bill aren’t old enough to buy a pint. First act Two Jackals , four 16 years olds from Brighton building a fair bit of buzz, are playing first purely because they’ve got to be back in school tomorrow, and late night’s have been kiboshed by their otherwise doting parents—who with their friends make up a fair proportion of the audience.  Strange experience ...

  • Halo Halo
Originally released by the Savoury Days imprint last year, M’Lady Records is now re-issuing  Halo Halo‘s debut single MANANANGGAL on 7″ format, coming out late next month. This London 3 piece do charming dance pop with a kind of quiet, shy exterior. The recording is raw in a clean, crisp way, very DIY. They’ve just returned from a mini gig excursion of Israel, are scheduled for a coupla shows in the UK before embarking on an European tour with Trash Kit, dates of which are below. [HALO HALO - MANANANGGAL] Check out this new video for MANANANGGAL Pre-order ...

  • REVIEW: Now, Now ‘Threads’
You may never have heard of NOW, NOW, but the 3 piece Minneapolis band have been around for a while. Formed in 2003 while still in high school as NOW, NOW EVERY CHILDREN (ring a bell now?) the group dropped the ‘Every Children’ in 2010 to avoid sounding too childish. While their new moniker may [...]

  • Dems - Inner O (Video)
We’re not quite sure what it is about this piece of heavenly electronic based music from Dems that we like so much, but in our world that is currently full of chesty coughs, shivers, sweats and draining pains it feels effortlessly uplifting and heart-warming. Having evolved from a one man d-i-y artist out of Edinburgh  since first appearing on Breaking More Waves back in  September 2010  to a 3 piece consisting of David Gardener, Duncan Mann and original member Dan Moss , Dems has supported the much hyped Azealia Banks and also released the House EP . The Inner O is ...
